My computer had a virus and the company that repaired it for me wiped out all of my thousands of photos. I had backed everything up on my My book, but I can not find the disk or manual to reinstall it on my computer. Please tell me it's not hopeless to retrieve my photos!

Most backup programs just copy the files. In that case just plug the disk in , access it from My Computer and copy them back. If the backup program compresses them then you will need it - here it is

First figure out what version and model you have.- http://www.wdc.com/en/products/catalog/?segment=2
Then go to support and download the software http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?level1=1&lang=en
Everything should be there and intact if it was backed up successfully the first time. Just read everything carefully and take your time.

Delete antiviruss plz

Hi,

You can try to run a full virus scan in Safe Mode. To access it, you will either press F8, or Del (depends on what key was designed on your computer to access the Advanced Boot Options), after getting the Advanced Boot Options, select Safe Mode an press Enter key.

If your antivirus software cannot detect any virus, it was either not updated or was disabled by the virus. You need to contact your antivirus company to get help with manual virus deletion.

However, if you don't have any antivirus installed I suggest to just wipe everything off from the harddrive and start from factory settings.

Hope this helps.

I have a cannon ixus 70 and have accidentally formatted my memory card, is there any way of getting my photos back?

Hi,

In this case, it doesn't really matter what camera...formatting the card does the same thing and removes all the pointers to the files, so it appears the card is empty (formatting also creates the directory structure and a few other things). Do NOT do anything else to the card. If you use it, another picture will overwrite the ones you want to recover.

There are serverl companies that specialize in recovering "lost" data. Luckily, formatting doesn't always erase all the data. Google for "recover data after formatting" and you'll find several companies, including (I'm not promoting any of these, just one I found and one I've used).:
http://www.photo-recovery-software.net/features.html
I've used data recovery systems to recover a hard disk. None of this is cheap, but they usually will give free quotes.

Also, some companies offer data recovery software, e.g., http://www.nucleusdatarecovery.org/

An apparently bogus virus protection software company has taken over my computer. I cannot access Task manager and reboots do not help. I even gave them a credit card assuming I could cancel later but then...

Do not worry, The money you have paid is not lost but you can call your credit card company to dispute the charge and block all charges to that vendor so that the buggers won't get rich. As for removing the rougeware there is one very good software known as combofix that is excellent in dis-infecting your computer. It is a freeware that automatically does the job if you have a functional internet connection(as it has to download windows recovery console)

Just run it and watch the fake anitvirus being wiped out of your comp. Once its done download malware bytes free anti-malware and give it a go. Perform a full system scan to ensure that nothing is left.

Once you are happy purchase a legit antivirus . I recommend Kaspersky anti-virus . I personally use it and its really good.

Missing photo files

use asoftech photo recovery program to scan your usb and then recover your files.
http://www.asoftech.com/apr/

This software scans all storage space on usb and then join pieces together to recover photos. So even virus affected your file table, and put virus to boot sector, the program can still be used to recover your photos.

The keyboard and mouse only work on the BIOS and not on the desktop

You can reinstall XP if you back up your important data. It just might be the solution to your problem. Granted, backing up and then reinstalling everything is time-consuming, but it is the easiest and cheapest way to resolve most issues. There may be a virus or a recently added program that is causing the problem. Have you scanned for viruses?
