hold the back button and the up button until you see the Zune logo then release. if this doesnt work then you are going to have to reset your Zune....however this will loose all the data on the zune so your music/movies will be completely gone. you are going to need to press and hold the back and up button until the zune logo appears then hold the back,play/pause, and the center button until you see "please wait" if this doesnt work you have some serious issue.Source(s):
Hi if you tried doing a hard reset and the player boots up to 3 then goes away the HD ribbon cable could be bad. If If the player is getting stuck on any of the set when doing a hard reset then theres an issue with your HD. The HD might have a bad sector in it and will need to be ran threw some repair software to try and fix it. If that does not help then the HD will need to be replaced. The 120's are bad about having the HD fail in them.

there is a "lock" button on the top on the left side make sure this switch is turned to off.
Try one or more of these solutions to resolve this problem:
The Zune may be locked. Move the hold switch to the unlocked position. It may help to move the switch back and forth. Then press the play/pause button for a second.
The battery may be drained.try recharging it
To reset your Zune, press and hold the back button while pressing up on the Zune pad. Resetting turns Zune off and on again.
in order to fix this . you have to restart the device. to restart the device you press and hold back while also pressing and holding the top part of the zune pad until screen goes blank and zune logo appears this should work. if contact support comes back up try restoreing the device.
