I have a compaq m2000 I do not know if it is considered to be a laptop or notebook. I press the wireless button and it does not come on. A friend said that windows is not recognizing the wireless card. I was in Brazil and put a Portuguese window operating system on the computer.
Also my audio does not work.
Thank You

What service packs are installed,
if OS is XP then update to SP2,
any devices present will automatically be updated when you do a windows update,
update then reboot and try again.
Uninstall/reinstall both devices,
You can do the updates from your device manager just select the device right click and update.
This should fix both issues,Wireless and Sound.
Uninstall first then reboot and let windows autofind the device,
do the updates from your device manager just select the device right click and update.follow the prompts even if you don't have the disk, let the wizard look for the drivers, the different language should make no difference as long as you can understand the language.
Download the Audio Device Drivers from the windows disk or from the Computers Manufactuers Download Site.
This should be a free download fro their site.
Search Model And Brand for correct download.
Heres the manual I found,
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00...
Last resort is to restore ot default factory settings and this will wipe evey existing setting and give you a clean install.
Back Up before you start this process.
This process is accessed thru eManager
Update your windows and add some protection asap

THe advice you gave was excellent however the windows I have is in Portuguese and when we tried to do an update it did not allow me to do this. I may have missed the 90 days or the friend who installed it on my computer maybe it was not a legit copy I have my wireless working. I used Drive detective to scan the computer then a friend helped to add the different drivers. I still have no audio any suggestions.
