Kenmore electric dryer won't start

When I push the start button I can hear the timer switch getting power and making noises, but nothing else happens. I can push and hold start button down and feel the power getting to timer, but nothing happens after that. If belt was broken would I still feel heat out of dryer? I have the EXACT same issue. There is definately power to the outlet. I hear and feel the timer trying to work but the dryer does not turn on. It also seemed to make the clothes extra hot recently.

The fuse is mounted on the heater element. When it blows nothing in the heater or motor circuit works but the power to the timer is not interrupted therefore you can hear. Service manual

When I push the start button on my Kenmore 700 series dryer nothing happens. You can hear the timer clicking as if it is getting power, but the dryer doesn't come on. Could this be a defective timer?

Check the door saftey switch and the start button for continuety.
My bet is the door switch.
Then look at the timer if both those are good.

Dryer Won't Start

Make sure it has power. Then:Check the door switch. A little lever sticking down through top right of door opening. If it is not there you will need new door switch(sometimes the little lever breaks off). If it is there and does not click when you press it in you need a new door switch. if it clicks when you close the door then you have a bad thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is found by taking the back of the dryer off. The fuse is an oblong white plastic piece with 2 wires attached.

Door switch part number 3406109
Thermal fuse part number 3392519

Kenmore dryer

Do you hear the timer ticking?
Make sure there is 220 volts present at the terminal where the cord hooks to the dryer.
Inspect the wires for loose or burned.
Check continuity on the door switch.
Check continuity on the start switch.

When you push start button, it makes noise but won't start.

This is a A.C. hum that you are hearing. this is a warning sign. You are experiencing motor failure. the actual windings inside of the motor are losing their potential to hold an even current due to breakage. the shutdown is a safety feature built in the control panel to prevent electrical spark/fire.

Kenmore electric dryer won't start

The first thing I would check would be the door switch. Dryers operate on 220 volts. Many brands split the 220v into 110v for controls and motor and 110v to the heater. There are also safety systems on many brands that won't allow the heater to come on if the fan motor is not running and blowing air throught he element to prevent overheating and dryer fires. If the door switch is ok, check the belt. If the belt is ok, it could be a problem with the motor start switch. The motor start swith is complicated fix and should be done by a professional. ALWAYS BE SURE TO DICONNECT THE POWER BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY REPAIRS.
