Try with DVI port and see it works or not.
if worked buy a converting port (DVI to vga) and connect you video card Via DVI
and connect your other appliance Via VGA port by that converter.

OK. i think you need to install a driver for your video card and even for your monitor.so send me
model of your video card and your monitor and i will send you download links.

I have a raspberry pi 2 and i want to connect it to this monitor emprex 1704 it doesn't have a dvi, hdmi port or a vga?

Wait, the monitor does not have a DVI port, an HDMI port, or a VGA port?

The only other option I think the monitor could have is S-Video or composite, which would be astounding if that's the case. You can use a HDMI-DVI converter from your RasPi to get out to DVI, then a DVI to VGA converter to get to VGA, but I'm not aware of a VGA to S-Video or composite converter.

I have an HP m9000z that was previously used with a DVI cable/monitor. I only have a VGA cable/monitor and the pc doesn't access the monitor.

This PC has a VGA and a DVI ports? Are both ports on the motherboard or a Video card? Or is the VGA onboard video and DVI is a Video card? You may have to disable the DVI port to get Video to vga or enable the vga port.

you Monitor uses the DVI-I Port this link will show you what it is. you will need a adapter that can connect to VGA port on your PC. unless your HP has a DVI port. You need a DVI-I to DVI-I connection to work if it has one
this link will explain the difference of the DVI ports...

Hi there, I'd like to connect the Acer S202HLBD 20"" LED Monitor with a Mac Mini which cabling would I need?

It all depends on what kind of PORT connection you have on your MAC either VGA or DVI. If your Mac has VGA port then you need to use the blue cable that comes with your Monitor when you bought if you have DVI then you need to connect the white cable.

How to know if you have VGA or DVI or BOTH.

1. Check the sides of you mac and see if you have a blue port. Blue port means you have VGA port
2. IF you have white then that means you have DVI
3. IF you have both then you just need to use 1 connection. I prefer DVI since its digital.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FIXYA.

I have a dell dimension 3000, bought a new HP 2310E monitor with 3 ports. DVI, HDMI & display port. Told to buy a cable with VGA to connect to dell and DVI to connect to HP Monitor display port....

Hi sshorne9780,

I see that you are having a check input error on the Monitor/LCD that your are connecting to your Dell tower, please see steps below.

  • On your HP 2310E make sure that your HP is set to the input/source that you are using and make sure that you only use one type of video cable for the issue.
  • I see that you mentioned that you have a VGA cable and a DVI cable, you can only use one type of cable for a video connection.
  • VGA would be the Blue tipped cable connecting to the tower and going to the LCD monitor.
  • DVI this is a black cable connecting to a white port much bigger than a VGA port and is rectangular in shape unlike the VGA
  • moz-screenshot.pngmvincentc_34.jpg
  • and on your LCD monitor check the input type to see video from the tower.
  • everything seems to be OK you just need to change the input of your LCD monitor for the video to show up on the screen.
  • also if you are using HDMI for the video u will need to change the setting of your Audio and set HDMI as the Default to have Audio come out from the HDMI connection together with video, the HDMI viedo will automatically be detected as long as the LCD monitor's input is set to HDMI.
I hope that this will able to help resolve your concern.

Thank you for choosing Fixya,

I want to connect a HP w2207 monitor to a HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC. What is the best way to do this?

Your HP w2207 monitor has support for both VGA and DVI inputs. This therefore means that you can connect your HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC via either of these two connectors.

VGA is the blue coloured port on the rear of your monitor.
DVI is the white coloured rectangular port located on the rear of your monitor.

DVI is the better connection of the two as it is a digital connection, so use this one if you can, alternatively you can use the blue coloured VGA cable to connect your monitor to your computer.

It all depends on which output, either DVI or VGA is found on your Computer. Remember VGA is the Blue coloured port and DVI is the blue coloured port.

All the best!

Dvi-dvi connection to a ati radeon hd4670 does not recognise monitor,ie no display. Using a supplied adapter dvi-vga and a vga cable their ia screen display but in device manager it is a generic monitor?

Was there an installation disc that came with it in the package? Some monitors require software to be used. If you don't have the installation disc, you will most likely find the necessary software on the manufacturer's support site: ProLite Support Driver Download Site.

If the monitor software doesn't solve the problem, try using a different DVI cable. More often than not, these types of problems can be traced back to a faulty cable or port. If the DVI port on the monitor is bad, you will have to use the VGA port as you are now or replace the monitor.

If the DVI port on the video card is bad, you will need to replace it. A good way to test this is if you have another monitor with an available DVI port you can connect to the video card.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Running two external monitors

Okay. Thanks for the info too...

I looked at the user's guide for this laptop and see exactly what you're saying.
I found it here: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/MacBook_Pro_Users_Guide.pdf

So, the laptop comes with a DVI to VGA adapter because the only port on this system that will allow you to connect an external display is one that connects to a DVI port (in short, you don't have a VGA port).

moz-screenshot-3.jpgmoz-screenshot-4.jpgOkay, you have a couple of options here:

  1. You can purchase a docking station which, depending on where you buy it from, will be more expensive than the other options. If you decide to purchase one, first make sure that it will provide the ports that you need. For example, my docking station has one DVI port and one VGA port. If and when I connect a second monitor, I will connect it to the DVI port using a single DVI to VGA adapter (as I don't have any flat panels that connect directly to a DVI port). 63efdf2.jpg If you purchase the docking station, make sure it has both the DVI and VGA or you're stilling floating up the same creek without a paddle.
2. You can't use the cable that came with the laptop because it only connects to the DVI port
of your laptop with one VGA connector on the other end, therefore, supporting only one
external monitor. You need either a DVI to DVI and VGA adapter or a DVI to VGA and VGA
adapter
.

This is a DVI to VGA and VGA adapter

Okay, now that we covered that information, let's get down to business...
Since you already have your monitors and probably don't want to spend $200-300 on a docking station, this is the best and quickest solution:

You have two monitors both with VGA connectors. Your laptop has 1 DVI port on its side (correct?).
Look at the image of the DVI to VGA and VGA adapter. You need to purchase one of these. It will allow you to connect one end to the DVI port on the laptop and connect your monitors to the two VGA ports on the other end...viola!!

You can use the DVI to VGA and DVI adapter but it would complicate your situation unless you were trying to connect a VGA and DVI monitor so we can eliminate that option unless you are desparate and that's the only adapter you find to purchase.

These adapters are very inexpensive (probably anywhere from $9 to $19. You should be able to purchase them at a store that sells computers, hardware, software, etc. You may even find them at Wal-Mart or RadioShack. If need be, you can purchase one online. However, if you go out and search a couple of stores or computer places, you should find one and be able to connect your monitors when you get home.

Feel free to leave any comments if you need further information.

Thanks for using Fixya and don't forget to rate this solution.

Monitor says No signal digital

Is ether the monitor or video card uses both DVI or VGA port. There may be a switch on the graphic card that changes it from DVI to VGA, often outside the card.

Also is the computer monitor set to the right setting if it can use both VGA and DVI, if using DVI (of any type) it need to switch to digital, and if using VGA it need to be set to analog. This may be a physical switch or using the settings button. (see manual how to change them)

PS: VGA port is a blue D shaped port with 15 pin holes, and DVI is a white rectangle port with one port being a line.
