I have a Denon 2900 CD/DVD player and it players CDs just fine but struggles with DVDs. It usually wont even begin to play the DVDs, and when it actually does it will freeze up and not respond. Also the door will not open at times. I can hear the motor trying to push the tray out but it just seems to stick on something.

SOURCE: Player does not recognize or play CDs

Thats how some manufacturers sell there replacement parts as they come into the country assembled. it cost let to import but more for us. i once needed a spindle motor for a unit, no replacement except the manufacturer part. Had to buy entire laser assy and thats what they bare selling you too. If you already tryed to manualy clean the lens, look on the side of the laser pick-up. it might be made by sony or a popular manufacturer go by the number printed on the label on the side or bottom of the laser assy unit itself. Good Luck

SOURCE: Denon 2910 CD player malfunctions

Hi,

There has been a number of reports of similar issues with Denon models that utilizes the 'PureProgressive technology'. Some of the issues and tried corrective measures are -
1. It would appear that in certain occasion, performing a "region free hack" disables the 'PureProgressive technology' and one solution tried is to set the unit to NTSC and not multi or PAL;
2. disable/turn-off digital output;
3. some has reported significant improvement when a firmware upgrade was performed;
4. use DVI instead of of other outputs.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: DVD tray makes noise when it rotates

This noise can be casued by two things:

1) The tray is not completely in the loaded position and the "clamper" is rubbing. Replace the loading belt and the loading sequence will complete and the noise should stop.

2) The "CD table" that is part of the spindle motor assembly has slipped a bit. This will make the CD/DVD ride too low and strike the lower tray support. This will require that the table be "re-aligned" to the proper height which may not be possible on your model without special measurement equipment. The height is critical to proper operation of the unit.

Try replacing the load belt first and report your results.

Thanks,
Dan

hi,
in dvd player this problem can occur when there is a problem with the spindle motor. it will not rotate at the required RPM for cds. just check the spindle motor. if available replace it and try again.

Have dvd from U S . they are echo bridge and wont play

Some DVD players will play more types of DVDs than others, just as some CD players will only play certain types of CDs. You will have to find a more updated player.

The products usually tell you on the box or in the directions how many types and configurations they will play. Good luck!

Plays cds but not dvds

If the lens is clean (clean with cotton swab and alcohol), then the optics are failing. DVDs require more power and accuracy to be read than CDs. The ability to read CDs but not DVDs is usually a good indication that the optics are starting to fail.

Denon 3910 won't load some dvds/cds and vibrates while trying.."disc error"!

I have the Denon 2900 (about 4 years of use) and until recently, suffered from the same (growing) problem. CD's were very difficult to start/read. I recently found advice which I tried and was succesful with. It was manually cleaning the laserlens. I took away the outer housing by unscrewing all off the on top (6), side (4) and the back (2) bolts. After that I took out the top plate of the laserunit which took two very little screws taking out. Now you are looking at the cd-tray with the lens. Take a very soft and clean cloth and moisten it a little bit with clean water (be very carefull with the moistening, don't allow any waterdrop to come out of the cloth into the laserlens while cleaning! Carefully clean the lens and dry it with a dry part of the same cloth. Replace the top plate and the outer housing and the player will recognize the discs like it's new again. Good luck!
