Sometimes you need to hold down the button for 5 to 10 seconds while the heater heats up,, as soon as it gets to temperature then it should stay on with no problem.
as far as the one that is not lighting -- all I can thing of is that the igniter is not close enough to the fuel exit area ( ? ),, with the power off - ( un-plugged ) look inside as you press the igniter and see if you can see the spark arch. -- also, if this is a new heater there is a chance that there might be something wrong with the regulator and it is either getting to much or not enough gas.

2012 Rockwood 8288ws just purchased. When I turn the switch on for the water heater it cycles trying to ignite gas. I want to run electric only. What am I doing wrong?

1st Question - Can you verify that you actually have a Gas/Electic Waterheater? Most units are gas only. You may have to look at the unit and look for power cables.

2nd. Is power connected prior to turning on the water heater?

How do you know the temperature heater is running at when set on light orange 1st or 2nd square

The only way to tell is to use a thermometer as the outlet heat is based upon the surounding air temperature.

My heater will not light and electronic ignighter just continually sparks but burners do not light up? I've checked gas, etc but just won't light. Any suggestions? Do burners need replacing? Heater is 8yrs...

Do you physically see the spark or are you just hearing it. You can also take the igniter wire off of the control module and disconnect the pilot gas tubing from the gas valve. Turn the heater on and wait to see if you hear and smell gas coming out of the gas valve. If there is no gas check for 24v at the PV connection on the module. If there is voltage the problem is the gas valve. If no voltage the problem is the ignition module. If there is gas I would replace the pilot and gas tubing.

DO NOT USE this heater until you have an expert look at it . Propane or Natural gas heaters that are not burning properly can and will emit C.O. (Carbon Monoxide) a deadly gas . When C.O is produced , although odourless in itself , does have a very strong burning type odour that comes from Aldehydes that are also produced along with the C.O.

Reddy 115 will not ignite

1st check to see if you have spark, 2nd check the pump pressure using the correct pressure gauge, the pressure should be 5.1 psi for model 115. if little or no pressure you may have a air line leak or a defective rotor. if you do have pressure you may have a plugged nozzle. i hope this helps.
