    Does it log you on with a temporary profile? Or it doesn't log you on at all? What OS you have?

Are you the Administrator of the computer? You could have a infection of many types.
If your not the Administrator. Log in safe mode.
Restart or start the computer.
As soon as it starts to boot hit the F8 key - keep hitting the key till you see Safe mode options.
Start in Safe mode with networking
Now the log in screen should show a Administrator log in that you may not have seen before.
Log in to that Administrator. Shouldn't be Password protected.
Once inside you can change your account to administrator.
Click START< >Control panel> then look for User Accounts
Look at your User account and make sure or change it to Administrator control..

How do i restore factory settings on my dell inspiron mini 1018

This is quite easy to do, when your turn on your computer you need to hit a hotkey over and over again. The hotkey is different for each type of laptop but the common ones are f11, f1, f2, alt+0 and f12.
Once you reach the recovery screen you just need to follow the on screen prompts and you're all set

Try running diags Fn + Power button see if anything fails

Since you can boot to the BIOS, then the system is posting, so I suspect you have either a Windows issue or a hard drive issue.

If the HDD passes diagnostics, I'd try booting to the XP CD and see if you can press R for recovery console and run the command CHKDSK /R and see if that resolves

The keyboard is frozen on the dell inspiron

Try removing any external devices first (Ex. USB devices) then run some diagnostic test:

1. Turn on computer
2. Tap F12 continuously on the Dell logo screen
3. Select Diagnostics
4. Wait for the test results (approximately 10-15min.)

If all test passed no problems have been found, it means there is no problem with hardware/computer. The problem is now pointing out to be software problem. Solution will be restoring it back to factory settings.

1. Turn on computer
2. Tap F8 continuously on the Dell logo screen
3. Select Repair computer
4. Follow instructions... then select "Dell Factory Image Restore " on the recovery options
5. Follow instructions
6. Wait for 20-25min. and computer now is back to factory settings

It has deleted every thing and now i can not load my dongle and so i cant use the internet and also i am lossing work i am exreamly angey as this lap top is 8 months old

  1. Run diagnostics from the F12 menu at boot, see if there is any hardware failure detected
  2. Since the system is 8 months old, it should be under warranty will Dell. (800-624-9896 USA) they should be able to assist.
  3. If your WIndows install is completely hosed and the HDD passes diags, you should be able to re-image the system (Back up all your data 1st or it will be lost forever) XP CTRL+F11 at the Dell Screen, Vista Image Restore is on the F8 boot menu.

WELL HAVE OWNED THIS LAPTOP SINCE IT WAS NEW AND ONE DAY THE BATTERY RAN LOW WHERE IT SHUT DOWN NOW IT WANTS ADMIN PASS WORD CALLED DELL NO HELP EVEN THEY CAN LOOK UP ALL OF MY INFO WHEN I BOUGHT THE LAP...

if you are using xp.Enter Windows using the f8 choose Safe Mode.Once in go to the control panel under users change your password or even delete it.

Do you still have the Dell Resource CD? If so, run the 32-bit diagnostic tests by inserting the Resource CD or Drivers and Utilities disk and press F12 when you start the computer (as soon as you see the DELL logo). Then boot from the CD-ROM. Run the Express Test. Check for error messages. Go to support.dell.com and search for that error message or codes.
