Possible hard drive errors I would say. Try and start it from your restore disk or your System disk and back up your data them replace the hard drive. Hope that helps.

I would forget about all the recovery options if you dont care about lost data get ya windows disk and boot from that then format and reinstall the lot. If you dont have a windows disk download 1 free from http://thepiratebay.org/ cheers and please vote
Do a hard drive test from the BIOS accessible throught F10 key as soon as you slide the power button to turn on the computer. Then on the diagnostics screen you should use the primary hard drive test. Depending on the result. Failed. Replace Hard Drive. Passed Reload OS.
Do you see the acer splash screen before you get the black screen with the curser? If so it is more than likely a windows problem. Boot from your XP disk and select R when prompted to repair. Once in the repair console type the following:
chkdsk /r
When it is finished (will take about an hour) then type exit to restart the computer.
Your PC is looping back to the windows splash screen, you will never get it to bootup like it is supposed to. Your OS is corrupt, you need to reinstall your OS, there is a way to do so provided you have the disks to reinstall the OS.
