How do I set my message manager to receive messages? I have a Vtech 5.8 digital answering machine with 3 phones.IA5874 I don't have my manual with me and the message on the phone is that this phone cannot receive messages. I also cannot change the year on the phone. The year on it is 2027 and I cannot change it to 2011. I would appreciate your help,. Thank you

Your answering machine is in announce mode, where it plays an outgoing announcement but will not record any messages. To change it, press MENU until the system announces "Set announce only." Press CHANGE until the system announces "Off." The above is from page 28 of the manual.

Press the menu button repeatedly until you hear the phone say "set announce only" Press the change button twice The first time tells you the current setting which is "on" the second time turns it off.
