Whirlpool Gold White-on-White 21.9 cu. ft. Conquest Side-By-Side Refrigerator with Ice and Water GD2SHAXLQ Side by Side Refrigerator Logo
Anonymous Posted on Nov 21, 2010

I have a Whirlpool White Conquest Side-By-Side Refrigerator GS6SHAXLQ03, manufactured March 2003. The ice maker creates ice and fills the "holding bin" on the interior of the door. However, when one puts a cup against the dispenser to get ice out of the door, nothing comes out (the water works fine). The problem seems to be that the ice in the holding bin sticks together, forming a block of ice that cannot get through the ice dispenser. It starts sticking on the bottom and in a couple of days is a completely frozen block. Is there a way to stop the ice from sticking and forming a block so that we can get ice out of the door? Thanks, John D.

The ice will melt during the defrost cycle. Make sure your freezer is cold enough, at least -5, preferably -10. also, if your freezer is not full of food, put some milk jugs full of water in there to take up space. This will keep the temp colder when the compressor shuts off for the defrost cycle. if there is too much empty space, there is not enough mass to stabilize the temperature and keep it cold.

Whirlpool Conquest Gold White Model# - GS6SHAXLQ03

The relay is the start device, but you need to determine if you need it,try to see if you have power to the compressor,is the compressor running,is the condenser fan motor running,is the coil under the unit clogged with dust,if the fan under the unit doesn't run it will overheat the compressor and it will go off. and if the coil is clogged the same thing goes.
Usually if the relay is bad the compressor will make a hum and a click noise but will not actually run.about every 5 minutes..
