I suddenly lost the sound on my dell d620 xp i downloaded the driver back as i was instructed but to no avail, i dont know what to do. please help.

Please visit the above link from Dell Official Support. Choose the Operating System you have on your laptop and Click DOWNLOAD.
A window will appear. Click the DOWNLOAD button at the bottom left hand side of this window (under Download via your Internet Browser). This would download the driver .exe file to your computer. Double click the downloaded file and follow the instruction to install audio on your system.

For the D620, you would go to the following website. You'll need to select the operating system that you're running, and then go to the "Network" section of drivers and download the drivers there. There may be several different drivers since the D620 came with several different network adapters - It's most likely the Broadcom - Driver 57xx Gigabit Integrated Ethernet Controller.

Download the file and run it - it will walk you through the installation.

Go to support.dell.com. There is a link for drivers and downloads. Make sure to chose Windows XP as your operating system. Download the audio driver for that computer.

Your sound driver is corrupted. Download the latest version of the sound driver, uninstall the previous version and reinstall this new version.

Try running a good registry cleaner like Glary Utilities or Advanced Widowsystems. That should help. Also try checking for driver updates on Dell site.

It's easy to miss the point at which you hit Ctrl + F11. You need to hit Ctrl + F11 at the point you see the blue bar across the top of the screen, it will display www.dell.com. If this is still not working you can use the XP operating system CD to reinstall XP and the Dell drivers CD to reinstall the sound, video, network and other drivers. If Dell didn't send you the operating system CD, you should contact them.

Did you mean HGX 260?. Her is the download page for the GX 260. Natually you will have to turn back on the "on board" video in the BIOS . If this video driver doesn't work,all you have to do is rool back the driver nothing lost.
