SOURCE: MIcrowave light and turntable are working, but food comes out cold

I suspect the magnetron or high voltage transformer, and either part's cost or labor would probably be about the same as the cost of a new comparable unit.

SOURCE: Microwave does not heat food placed in the center of the turntable. Leaves a cold spot in the middle of the food.

This is normal. That's why I always recommend to my customers that the food be placed slightly off-center on the turntable. An analogy I refer to is stirring paint: If you stir paint with a stick by simply rotating the stick in the center of the can, it's far less effective than pulling the stick around an imaginary circle halfway bewteen the center and the edge.

SOURCE: Microwave not heating food

It's most likely the Magnetron. The are not very easy to install and quite expensive. Older models magnetrons cost about 80 bucks from GE. It's probably not something you would want to try and repair yourself. Call a GE service person.

Microwave light comes on and turntable revolves when food is put in, but it doesn't heat food up. Food remains cold, can you help? thanks Dee

9 times out of ten it is the magnatron that has gone bad, that is the device that creates the microwaves for heating the food. Check inside the cabinet for fuses and if none found or blown then it is the magnatron. These are available widespread but most cost about as much as a new oven, so do a google search on your make and model of microwave and search for a magnatron for that unit. This will bring up parts suppliers and their prices and you can decide if it is worth fixing or replacing

My microwave doesnt work

If you hear an unusual buzzing noise, the magnetron (the component that actually generates the microwaves) or other electronic module may be broken. This is not easily fixed; contact a service technician.

Kenmore Microwave Won't Heat Food

The service manual is here.

Unless there's a bad connection at a magnetron terminal, I would say you have a failing magnetron.

It is part number 2B71165R and you can get it from the Pros here for $68.59 (subject to change).

GE JVM1870SF02 - not heating up anything!!

I had the same problem with mine, and discovered, somehow, that when I manually turned on the "vent fan", the microwave worked fine. A bit of a pain, but it heated up the food when it hadn't been prior to the vent fan being on. Can't understand why it solved it, but it's been working like that for about a year now. When I forget to turn on the vent fan though, the food is just as cold as when I put it in.
