My LG refrigerator does not stay cold when it is extremely humid. Our freezer actually starts defrosting food especially ice cream. I believe it has to do with it circulating the outside air, but is there anything I can do to stop it from not staying cold?

LG FX28977ST the freezer only gets down to 32 degrees and the refrigerator only gets down to 43 degrees. It seemed to work fine until two days ago when it quit making ice and the ice cream got soft.

First, I'm not a LG Technician. Call your LG vendor for service.
*** the following is for information only. ***
* Move food items to another refrigerator.
* Do a complete DEFROST of the box. (unplug it.) Expect it to take 4 or more hours. You must wait till all water stops dripping out of the fridge. Keep checking the lower defrost drip tray at bottom of fridge. Dump out water from tray as needed. DO NOT you a hair drier or any other heat source! The heat will warp the plastic. Use a small fan to gently blow into the freezer section.
* DO NOT use an ice pick or sharp object to remove ice! Just let everything melt. (The problem of ice is inside the coils)
* Plug in Fridge but don't put any food in. Set dial temperature to the Mid range setting. Set to freezer venting to normal. Set the refrigerator to mid range. Let it cool down to 0 - 10 degrees and start making ice (in ice maker) If it does not cool down to at least 10 degrees F then call for service. Suspect bad thermostat, Blocked condenser coils, Bad pump, etc. Qualified service tech required to repair.
* Cooling okay? Reload food but don't stuff it in. Leave space between the walls to allow cold air to flow around foods. It will take a day or so to cool down food properly. Note: I may take longer if this fridge is near a heat source like a Hot water heater, Oven, Range, Steam radiator, etc.
* If your still icing up in 2-3 weeks. Then check if the coils are icing up. Defrost is not working. This needs to be checked by a tech. Have him perform annual maintenance.
* Check door seals. Kids leaving the door open? High humidity? * Note how everyone uses the fridge; are they putting hot food in it? Open hot steaming food adds heat and humidity to fridge. Hot food with thaw out other frozen food and build up frost.
* Final, Have a Tech check your fridge. Have them perform maintenance and replace worn items as needed.

Frost is building up in bottom freezer. Appliance is running nonstop. I believe that the freezer drawer has been shut completely. Foods in refrigerator section are fine; foods in freezer section are...

Frost can build up for multiple reasons. Most common is the start os an iceblock. Other reasons can include condensation from door being left open or opening too much. It can also happen from backsplash from the inlet tube for the ice maker. If the fridge is running non stop. It sounds like the ice block is forming and the temps are not getting to the program temps. If at factory setting the freezer should be at or around 0 degrees and fridge should be between 42 and 48 degrees. Has the fridge shutdown at all to go into defrost? The defrost timer may have went out and is causing an iceblock. If there is an ice block always change bimetal/ defrost thermostat.

If you need any further assistacne please feel free to comment me.

Bottom frig is not cold enough. just connected after 1 yr

Ok do this. Boil some water in a pot then use that to defrost the freezer. This is caused by ice build up in the vent that is keeping the cold air from coming into the refrigerator. Make sure it is defrost completel though cause the ice that is built up is mostly inside and can't be seen. That will solve ur problem I guarantee. Then set the temperature to normal. Like half way. This keeps the frost from building up. Believe it or not as refrigerators get a bit older they actually get even colder and therefore frost build up is more likely. Since no refrigeration can be made completely leak proof, small amount of the freon has leaked out older fridge, and this actually cause it to get colder. You don't need a service technician just defrost then set to a lower setting thats it.

Freezer working only slightly. Refridgerator not working at all.

If you have ice build up behind the panel inside the freezer, you most likely have a bad defrost heater. You can remove the back inside panel of the freezer. Take a hair dryer and defrost the ice. When the ice is gone you can inspect the heaters. If they are not fixed it will continue to happen. When the coils ice over, first the freezer will get warmer. The first complaint is that the ice maker stops working. Then the ice cream starts melting (Due to the sugar in ice cream, it has to be around 0 degrees to stay froze solid). Then the fresh food section starts warming due to the fans not being able to force air into the fresh food section.
Please rate solution if helpful. Thanks

Your Feedback

the settings that you said sound correct, you do not want your vegetables to dry out and shriviel up. The meat compartment should be running around 31-33 degress to keep the meat fresh, basically that is the ideal situition for you. Do you store allot of ice cream ? thats the only thing that needs to be extremely cold (-10) degrees. Best to keep in a deep freezer not the one inside.the only thing that I use mine for inside is ice and food that is going to be ae real quickly. long term storage is best in a deep freezer that you have to manually defrost. That way it neveer freezer burns the food. Hope this helps out.
