The hard drive is usually located under a recess plate on the base of the laptop.
If you locate the battery on the underside, the hard drive cover is next to it and is held on with just two screws.
Hope this helps.

I need to open my Acer laptop case to solder to power switch

Hi there,
this may not be your exact model, but should give you a good general idea on how to get inside. The key is prying up the top strip, that seems like it is going to break. Use something plastic or wood if possible. A screwdriver will leave marks.

Opening acer aspire 5050

The top and bottom covers are also held together with plactic catches.
After you remove the battery, CD/DVD drive and hard drive etc.
start near an openning and gently pull apart the top and bottom cases, you should hear a click as a catch releases, then continue to work around the edge fron this point.

I can't find the cmos battery in my Acer TravelMate 512DX

you have got an older model, try this:

follow the instructions:

you will need:
a slim x-screw-driver
a sharp knife with a slim blade and
a cup or else for the screws, don't loose them!
a new c-mos bios battery model: CR-1220 (exchange it while your in there!)

you find c-mos battery and hdd under the keyboard!

- turn off the power, remove accu and charger cable, for static electricity is friendly fire
to your laptop now !

- open your screen to max. fold (angle of 180 degrees)

- look for removable plastic part near to left holder of screen
- carefully remove it
- also remove plastic panel right to it in the section between display holders
metal should be visible now
- carefully! remove keyboard, starting at the left side, continuing topside
as you won't be able to fully remove it, simply turn it over
- unscrew any screws holding the metal plate, remove it
- now you see: left the CPU plus cooler, top right middle the hdd still in an adapter attached
to the mainboard, at it's lower right the C-MOS battery (g
- turn loos these screws
- carefully remove the frame/adaptor holding the hdd
- unscrew again the adaptor
- seperate hd fram adaptor

... and gotcha!

be careful to get a proper notebook hd (samsung or such)
exchange CMOS-battery by chance
reattach new hd to frame, again carefully!

to reassamble: rewind the procedures
put everything back in place

replug, pray and turn on the lappie.

wish you luck.....

I need to replace the keyboard for a Travelmate 2410. I have the replacement keyboard but am finding it difficult to open the cover. I have removed all the screws from the underside but it is still not...

You need to remove the cover where the power button is located, be careful as there is a ribbon cable attatched to the mainboard under here to pulling to vigorously may cause the cable to get pulled out. Then you need to remove the screw(s) holding the keyboard down, thats all just put the new keyboard abd tight the screws properly.

Be Happy always

Replacing DVD drive on Acer Travelmate 2428

There are two screws that hold the CD/DVD drive in place on a laptop. I'm not familiar with your particular model but these screws are sometimes located on the bottom of the case and marked as such, others have them located under the keyboard. If you don't see them on the case bottom, look in your owners manual and see if it describes how to lift the keyboard. I don't recommend you try removing the keyboard without some clear instructions to follow as its real easy to break something on a laptop if you don't know what your doing.
