I have a similar problem with my G175. I have found that by quickly hitting the menu three times and the decrease birghtness several times, the monitor will stay on for an extended time, although very dim. This may get you through for a while, but you ultimatelyt will likely need to replace the monitor, unless you feel equal to the challenge of being your own montior repair technician. I have not yet ried a different power supply between the wall and the monitor but do plan on that at some point. These can be subjet to the same capacitor issues the other poster mentioned. Good luck and let us know how you come out. Thanks!
It can be dying power supply due to bad DC filter caps or dying inverter circuits, worst case will be bad backlight assmblies.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.
