My tv will only turn on and off, it is stuck on the same volume and aspect. remote and tv controls will not respond. red light blinks 20x's when you turn it off.
It's definitely a firmware problem. I called Panasonic and they were very polite about the entire situation and sent me a SD card with the firmware update. If you don't have time and you're tired of listening to tv at the same volume there is a way to do a hard reset.
I figured that unplugging the unit would do this, but there is one other step that you have to do to ensure that this works.
Generally the power button on the tv is always in the "on" position, this is what allows the remote to work. In order to do a hard reset the on/off button must be in the off position. Make sure that is off, then unplug the unit, let it sit there for a minute or two and plug it back in. If the tv comes back on as soon as you plug it back into the wall/powerstrip then the button was not in the off position.
This isn't the best fix, you'll still need to get the firmware update but it will at least give you the ability to use your tv normally....well until it decides to randomly lock up on you again and you have to do this all over.
I had the same issue with my 50 inch panasonic. I downloaded the firmware but scratched my head when it said i had to use the remote. The instructions for updating the firmware included unplugging the TV so i tried that. When i plugged it back in (after 30 seconds) all the buttons and the remote worked. I then followed the instructions for updating the firmware and it seemed to have worked. Hopefully i won't have another random lock up.
I had the same symptoms and 20 blinks. i replaced the digital tuner board and this fixed my problem. good luck
I have the same "random lock-up" condition with my TH-42PX60U. Hoping for a quick fix, I downloaded the firmware directly from Panasonic's website. Unfortunately the firmware update requires me to press the "OK" button on my remote which refuses to work on the update screen due to the "random lockup" condition. The remote does work and the tv displays beautifully when the tv decides to "randomly operate". Is there another way to tell the tv to update the firmware without using a remote?

Called Panasonic and they said they would send me firmware 1.04 which would update my TV since it falls under the "Random lock up condition (All buttons on remote and front panel inoperative, except for Power button)" symptom which is exactly what is happening
I had the 20 blinks, no volume, no Chanel change, but I could power on at the set or with the remote. For me the fix was to remove the quarter a helpful 2 year old used to not update my firmware!?! Then hold the power button down for 4-5 seconds (the light and tv turn off and stop blinking because it is fully off) unplug the tv for 4-5 min, Plug it back in, turn it on, find everything working, did a happy dance.
Those last few steps may seem unneeded but they make all the difference.

Having the exact same problem, has anyone found a way to do a hard reset? I tried leaving the set unplugged overnight and it did nothing.
Exact same problem.

Don't have the flashing light 20x, but no response except power on-off is it exactly. Remote TV indicator flashes three times.
