You have to compress the top plate AFTER BEING CERTAIN the bottom plate has the flex tubes fully installed on the correct side of the plate and the plates are aligned. The shaft groove will be just below the plate surface prior to pressing the top plate down and once down you can place the e-clip into the groove to secure it.

40 ec fix sub zero

check on top of subzero with it shut off and you will see a fan pulling air through some fins. those need to be clean and free of dirt if not your system will not get cold enough to meet the thermostat requirements. or you could have a bad thermostat.

Hello Bill The temp stat is a square box clipped in under the elements .Can be replaced in 5 minutes.Need a large flat screwdriver.

C clip is broke / now how do I put it back togather

There are two "C" clips on a Hayward EC40. Both on each side of the tube sheets. Attach the clips, put the head back on by slipping the shaft up into it and secure the handle to it with the pin and nut, then pop the cover back on.

When you push the bump handle up and down, it feels like nothing is working. I was told that one of the upper or lower shaft c-clips are broken. Hayward does not list these c-clips on their parts repair...

Try your pool dealer. I've had several break and the local dealers usually have them in stock. The part number for the kit is ECX1014A-HF but you should be able to find a dealer that will sell only the clip.
