Legacy Hello, I have a acer aspire 4315-2004 With Vista Home Basic. I'm having trouble getting my windows updates, I keep getting an error code #80070424, any thoughts? Also theres a 'add hardware' section that reads , "Install Legacy (non plug and play) hardware. I'm not sure what to do, Install or not? if I install, what type is it?

Please try the following:

Click Start >> Run >>
Type the follow command in the Open box.
"net.exe stop wuauserv" (w/o quotes)
Press Ok

Repeat the same for the following commands:

regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll
regsvr32.exe wups.dll
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll
regsvr32.exe qmgr.dll
regsvr32.exe qmgrprxy.dll
net.exe start wuauserv

Restart the machine and try again.

this sounds like a hardware issue, i suspect the harddrive. Try formating it and running diagnostics form a hDD external enclosure. Run a full scan disk and then format it form there before initializing it and back to the laptop for full installation of Vista

I have the acer5715/5315 series abd it crashed. I had it fixed and the guy put windows 7 so now none of my acer programs work. How can I get these to work with windows 7

1. Before upgrading to windows 7, you must check the specification of your acer aspire 5315.

2. Windows 7 is better than windows vista but if you are really wanted those acer programs to work. You have to downgrade your operating system from your previous operating system.

Need Vista Home Basic

Usually the operating system is on a separate partition especially for reinstallation when things go pearshape.

Some models used the SHIFT 0 when booting up to get to the windows installation. If you have deleted ALL partitions and reformatted then you have a real problem. Call DELL if you have not deleted partitions and find the specific s]sequence of accessing the partition for your model.
