The buttons on the front of the set fail, (like mine did) even if they never get used. Probably the 'DOWN Volume' in your case is stuck closed. Try pecking on it first. My remote stopped working but so did the manual buttons too. While poking around on stuff I swished my finger across the buttons and it all started working so I knew I was on to something. I never figured out which one was the culprit as it continued to cause problems and was replaced as a complete unit under warranty. The other quick check/fix is to remove the trim plate around the button plate (pop out stays like the speaker covers) , then remove the button assembly (3 screws plus pop out stays like the speaker covers) then unplug the multi colored lead from the button circuit board. This puts the Remote back in control and it will work just fine like this, minus manual control of course.
1.
Hold down the
MENU button on the remote and VOLUME DOWN button on the TV it's self at the

unlocked
2.
Hold down the 0
(zero) button on the remote and the VOLUME DOWN button on the TV itself at the
same time for at least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be
unlocked
3.
Hold down the
MENU button on the front of the TV and the TV button on the remote at the same
time for at least 4 seconds. 4- Hold down GO BACK button on the remote and MENU
button on the front of the TV at the same time for at least 4 seconds.
