Padlock icon

Many monitors have an on-screen display lock (the padlock icon) that seems to get stuck.
Various suggestions in the links below - the one that seems to work most often is to hold the monitor's menu button down for 15-20 seconds to get the screen menu, then either try unlocking the OSD (On Screen Display) or do a factory reset on the monitor.

Different monitors have slightly different menus, but if it's a Dell monitor you can find the manual below (under Display):

After my computer has booted up, I sometimes get a graphic of a padlock in the locked position on the screen and can't get rid of it -- what do you suggest I do to fix this problem?

Try pressing and holding the menu button on your monitor for 15 seconds or until the padlock graphic changes to an unlock graphic. Hope this helps you.

Flashing padlock icon in the middle of the screen

When the icon is in the unlock position, hold down the Menu key (the far left button in the lower righht hand corner) on your monitor. This should bring up the menu. From there, you can reset the factory settings.
