I have a Westell DSL modem & a D-Link DIR-625 wireless router. Everything has worked fine for years but a few days ago the Internet connection went down. I contacted AT&T for support. During the troubleshooting they asked me to disconnect the wireless router, which I did. We were able to get the Internet connection working again but when I re-connected my D-Link it dropped. Help!

If you don't know it you can check our list of default router and modem password list here.
If you have changed it and don't remember it you may have to reset your device to factory default using the reset button on most routers.

Try changing the IP on the D-link to 192.168.1.2 .

If this is a cable modem, you need to restart the modem every time you change whatever is connected to it. Every device has a MAC address. Cable modems lock onto a MAC address that is connected to it and will only communicate with that device until you reset it by restarting. Some Comcast modems have a battery pack that must be removed in addition to unplugging it from the wall.

If it's DSL them maybe there is a username/password entered in the management console of the router.

try to do the ff:
power cycle modem/router
check router security settings
check for wifi barriers
delete previous wireless connections
optimize ie
If your wireless connection is working fine 2 wks ago then you may also try to run system restore

If it keeps on trying to connect to PPPoE, try not to use PPPoE setting. Use Automatic Configuration or DHCP connection type.

change your routers IP address to IP address. 192.168.1.1.

Try to update the firmware of your modem.

First check if your computer can get on the modem with an Ethernet ( This is to find out if your router will work with your modem) If you cannot get on give your ISP a call to have them configure the modem for Ethernet connection. If you do get on then connect the router to the modem and your computer to the router. You can run the CD for the router or do the connection manually.

What a static ip is, is the ip address that the router automatically assigns to other equipment. (computers, xbox, ect.) Find D-links customer support line for help.
