Envision LCD Monitor H170L, Type L71C

Desk top only shows about 1/6 of screen vertically on left side of screen.
The rest of it is a blank white color which flickers to a different shade of white at times.
The monitor works fine in windows and on line programs, etc.

The Envision H170L Monitor VGA cable.

the Envision H170L Monitor uses an interface 1.0x VGA - 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15). The same VGA cable wildly use in different computer brands..I was wondering why you have not found a replace for that cable. It can be purchase from any computer store.

If you are planning on cutting the wires and solder it together that would be easy if you have the diagrams of the pin numbering for male VGA connector and the female VGA connector. Check first this diagrams and follow strictly the coding of the wire so that it would be successful when connecting it together.

It is also better if after you solder the wire, you will use an shrinkable tube on the connection. Cover the whole sections of interconnected wires with shrinkable tube before you use the vga cable.

jsnent1, If monitor has manufacturing date close to 2006, then unit may have problem internal to it's switch-mode-power-supply. If smps dc output gets noisey due to bad or failed filter capacitors strange things may start showing up on-screen of lcd panel. Technician will need to evaluate unit and repair it. At least do another post and give me some history of unit so other readers will also know what to do if this problem occurs with their units. Also tell us the date of manufacture from rear cover of unit. 12fixlouie

I have vertical colorful lines on the screen just got a new computer with windows vista

the monitor is bad if your getting vertical lines on it. Anytime you get vertical lines on any monitor, LCD, laptop LCD, etc, then that means the screen is bad.

Your monitor needs to be replaced.

Vertical white line near the left end of the screen.

Usually when there are colored lines on the LCD its because the screen is going bad. Quick way to verify this, try a different monitor on your computer and if the line goes away then you know for sure the monitor is bad.

If you try a different monitor and the line remains then you know that the video card is bad.

Screen Keeps turning off after about 1 second. I turn it on and can see the desktop for about a second then the screen shuts itself off. turn it on and it keeps going off.like everysecond or two..tried...

willie114, You have typical problem of lcd monitor failure. There is only one further test you can do. Reconnect H170L to an already fully booted pc with WIN-Desktop showing. then and only then turn on H170L. As soon as screen goes to BLACK, shine bright flashlight 1 -2 inches from screen at different angles. You may or may not see the desktop screen even though the screen is black. If desktop can be seen it only means that the power supply is still powering up the digital lcd driver board. The problem is that your long, thin, Cold-Cathode-Fluorescent-Tubes are not lighting up due to a problem with the Inverter Supply that feeds AC to power the lamps. The inverter gets DC from the Switch-Mode-Power-Supply. The technology your are dealing with is similar to the new energy saving curlieQ screw-in replacement light bulbs. Only your tubes are straight and hung left to right horizontally in back of the lcd and their power source is a bit simpler and called a converter. AC to AC. Get back to me and I will let you know of your options as a consumer/user whose screen has gone to BLACK. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel@ aol.com Bye for now

Screen shift

Try setting the refresh rate to 60 Hz. (Maybe 75).
Is it xp?
Right click an empty part of the screen, properties, under monitor (I think; I'm on Vista) you can choose the refresh rate.
Most LCD's should be at 60 Hz.

H 170 L-17" monitor

If *nothing* displays on your screen, the most likely problem is your LCD Backlight Power inverter. If the backlight power inverter is bad, you can usually see some remnants of an image on the screen if you shine a light on it. If the backlight power inverter is bad, it may not be worth repairing on a 17" screen, considering the low cost for a new one.

It should be noted that Envision provides a 3-yr warranty for most LCDs, so contacting them for repair may be a good option. More information here:
