Usb memory stick

Hi,
I am trying to transfer data from a very old computer using the Toshiba 1GB USB 2.0 flash drive and the old computer doesn't have the driver software to run it. What do I do? Can I download a driver from the net? Could you please help?

  • Anonymous Jun 10, 2008

I have an old computer too, Win Me and I can't get my Toshiba usb 2.0 flash drive to work either although it says it works for Me on the package.

  • geometry43 Aug 04, 2008

Exact same problem except the 4-Gig model. I am running 98SE on the old machine, a Compaq, need to transfer important files. Stick runs perfectly on the new computer, an e-machine with XP on it. But on the Compaq, it first told me it needed a driver, then said the one I downloaded was insufficient. Toshiba has a site promising the correct one [Yahoo search "Toshiba 98SE flash drive driver"], but the site does not deliver. Call Toshiba and they'll tell you 98SE is no longer supported, even though the stick is said to be 98SE compatible. Apparently no help there.

If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know [[email protected]].

If the old computer is running XP.. then patch it up with service pack 2 and then transfer the files!
Most often service pack does the job.. Also the transfer is fast with the SP2 installed

My memory stick has stopped working, nothing shows up when I insert it into the computer...I need some of the files which are stored on it, do you know how I can fix it?

Files on a flash drive can be corrupted if it is not removed from the USB port properly.
Before removing the flash drive click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon and then click on the flash drive you want to remove and then remove the flash drive when the computer message says it is Safe to remove.
To restore the flash drive you may need to format the flash drive, but you will lose the data stored on the flash drive.
If you need the data on the flash drive this program may help: -

Putting on Computer what I have on Memory stick. I have saved songs from a Tyros 3 Keyboard and have difficulty putting it on Computer so that I can burn it on a CD...H E L P

Make sure you are in the song mode so you transfer just the song and not all the other stuff. Copy a song in the song mode to your USB stick, then read it on the PC. To burn it as DATA (MIDI data is data) you must use a burning program like Nero...

If you are trying to make an audio CD that is a different story as you need to convert the MIDI file to an audio format such as MP3 or WAV before burning and AUDIO CD.

HOW DO YOU USE A USB STICK

There are various types of USB sticks or adapters. The most common is an USB memory stick and they come in memory capacities from 256Mb to 32Gb or more.
The USB memory sticks are use to transfer data from a computer to a memory stick and vice versa (ie. copy data from one computer to another computer).
To copy data to and from a USB memory stick, all you have to do is to plug the memory stick into the USB port of a computer, the computer will recognize it as an external memory device.
Wait a few seconds and click to open the memory stick, just like openning a folder on your hard disk. You can then open the hard disk and copy data files from the hard disk to the memory stick in the same way if you were copying data to a floppy disk.

How is transfering Data and information from my computer into 1GB USB2.0(Data Traveler) done?. How do I start and how do I connect the USB2.0 on my computer to begin the transfering?. I am asking this...

FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT FLASH DRIVES

USB (Universal Serial Bus) flash drives are high-speed, high-capacity memory devices designed for long-term data storage and easy transport among PCs. The host PC treats the device just like a drive, so you can transfer files of all types to and from the device. Because the device emulates a drive, it supports any type of file, including audio files (such as MP3s) and graphics files (such as JPEGs [Joint Photographic Experts Group] and BMPs [bit map]). In addition, USB flash drives can easily support applications, CAD (computer-aided design) drawings, and a wealth of personal information you'd rather not leave on any particular PC. Even so, most USB flash drives are smaller than a pack of gum and can easily fit onto a key ring.

Years ago, users often referred to the practice of using floppies to transport files among PCs as sneakernet. Because USB flash drive manufacturers designed these devices for transport among PCs, their increasing popularity has given rise to a "new sneakernet."

ITunes download

The memory stick wouldn't change the ability to download with iTunes. You'd want to make sure you don't have a firewall blocking your iTunes internet access.
