Tv only a week old take it back were u bought it,trade it in for another tv.Tv have a picture than flashes only a few sec. than died have sound left only?Yes,than those tv 2 long LCD inverter boards are dead.These tv 2 long LCD inverter boards are only to help the tv to have a backlight for tv LCD screen panel only to produced pictures.
sounds like you might have PIP turned one (picture in picture) .. if there is no input hooked up for the PIP . you will just get a black screen ... you should be able to move that PIP around and change its size .. indeed turn it off .. look for a menu item called PIP .. select PIP off ..

I just went over the specs on the 42PFL5603D. It doesn't have PIP. I'm sure the guy in the shop was confused with another TV.
There is a software upgrade for that model TV. It wouldn't give you PIP. But, It will fix some of the problems they are have with the TV right now.

Let me know what you find out, I have a similar problem. I can get the PIP screen to come up but it will not allow me to have it on an input that actually shows a picture - just blue screen.
