you can get your copy of your service manual at the above link, this is what the engineers use to troubleshoot and hopefully repair. it is my professional opinion though that everyone should take their units to their manufacturers approved service center, contacting a head office, of your unit & getting an approved service center is just SO important, even worth the extra to ship it, you see, at those places, the Engineers, are trained on the equipment you have, they usually have parts on hand, and do the job quicker. Anyway do that and get a "Quote". This way, at least, you'll know weather to repair or replace

It sounds like the VGA cable connectors may have come loose, check both ends of the cable and the pins.

Colors not matching computer

It is possible your colour cartridge has cross contaminated the ink reservoirs. To check this take the colour cartridge out and turn it over to see the coloured pads. They should look red, dark blue, and orange ( the colours are actually Magenta, Cyan, and Yellow, but are concentrated). If any of the pads are pale or particularly green - change the cartridge.
If the colours look alright, your issue is probably that your monitor makes colour by emitting light frequencies so is bright, printed images make colour by absorbing light frequencies so will always be darker. There is always the issue of course that your monitor also has a colour "temperature" bias. Photo pros calibrate their monitors and printers to match.

I have a LG flatron L246WHX monitor connected to my laptop, the colour on the screen suddenly is only showing green and purple colours. how do I get it back to normal, is the adjustment done on monitor or...

First, make sure that the cable you are using is plugged in tightly on both ends...if some of the pin connections get loose the colors can go a little funky.

If Cable is tight try another cable. This will eliminate the cable as your problem.
If another cable gives you the same result it is then usually either a problem with the video card in your computer or the monitor itself.

Try plugging the monitor into another computer if you can. If the monitor is OK on another computer, the problem is then probably the video card on your computer. If you have a desktop, it can be replaced usually, or another video card can be added and used if your video card is built into the motherboard.

If all of those fails, it is likely the monitor went bad. Check if it is under warranty to see if they will replace or repair. If not under warranty you may want to replace the monitor at that point.

Well LG stands for Lotta Garbage!

Try checking the monitor to PC cable, if it's not fully on it will cuse color spread like you describe. One of the pins may not be inserted into the cable properly.

Bright screen with very low contrast

I fixed it myself, it seems that the monitor have some problems remembering it's settings and sometimes it automatically set its settings to crazy values that are out of the range that we are allowed to input. For my case, the setting that was crazy was the gamma setting since it was set so high. I wasn't able to bring it back to a normal setting so I found a way to do it by resetting the monitor. So to reset these display settings such as colour, contrast, brightness and gama, you need to turn on the monitor and unplug the monitor without turning it off and plug it back in again. It will automatically power on and the correct default settings will be present.

This forum isn't very helpful is it?

Colour problem

I have default settings I normally use for most sets before I begin any kind of alingment. Contrast: 90% Brightness: 45% Color: 45% Tint: 50% If the brightness is to high or the contrast to low the color is off. Check your connections, there probably OK, but, it never hurts. If the settings don't help call a local authorized servicer in your area. Hope this helps.
