Won't boot I have a 2.4 GHZ P4 running ona asus p4s800-mx motherboard. Last night it shut down unexpectedly and now on boot I get a single long beep post error code. Can anyone identify it

This MB is used mostly in Pentium 4 (P4) PC model. however, I don't know which particular brand. My PC is an IBM P4 2.4GB. Since the original MB got busted, it was replaced with ASUS P4S800-MX., and it works just fine.

No ways , first of all Windows 98 doesn't recognise sata drives and will not boot even from a sata dvd writer, there are no drivers for Windows 98 to display correctly and you will have trouble running Windows 98 above 256 MB RAM
Maybe the mobo is shot for u and he has his PSU shot.......Check for any burnt smells from the mobo. See if the cable from the PSU is properly connected to the mobo. Try removing all drives like graphics cards, RAMS one by one and see if it works.
