Igniton key is stuck in switch and won't turn off

The key won't turn to to the off / remove position. It runs the battery down. Also the transmission shifter won't lock into position. It moves from Park to Low without stopping. The doors locks will open in Park position, but the key won't turn off or come out. The vehicle is a 2005 GMC Envoy SLT with apporximately 60,000. First time any problem with no problems until now.

Igniton cylinder lock

The shifter control for the transmission is probably worn, so the connection to the electronic control switch is not making contact to be able to release the key,if your shift handle is loose from pushing and pulling, that may be the problem.

'91 LS400, trunk will not open. key will not turn, electric latch switch clicks but won't open. valet lock in open position. Tried 1) disconnect battery, reconnect battery, use switch, push down on...

If you hear the sound of the electric latch switch, then it's working but stuck somehow. Just put the key in the switch and turn it to the right and then pull up the trunk or ask someone to help you. it will open. I tried it today and it opened with me. It was stuck from inside by some kind of a broken plastic pieces. Just removed it and now it's working fine. good luck

Key stuck in my 2006 Buick Lacrosse I can start and drive the car but can't remove the key after turning off the engine without pushing the release button which is at the bottom of the steering colum. I do...

bad battery and if i don't drive the car couple of days then it goes dead ??? It's not the battery , you have a parasitic draw on the electrical system , that is what is draining the battery . Could be the instrument cluster .Watch this video . What's giving out 13 volts or when ? With the engine running hooking a volt meter to the battery the voltage should be 13 - 14 volts , depending on the load on the electrical system.
Chevrolet Truck Battery Dies Overnight Part

Does the vehicle have column or floor mounted gear selector ? Both have a safety feature Electronic Park Lock (EPL)/Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator:
Electronic Park Lock (EPL)/Ignition Lock Cylinder Control Actuator: If the vehicle is equipped with automatic transmission and a floor mounted console gear shift, it has an ignition lock cylinder control actuator system in the steering column. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator purpose is to prevent the ignition key from being turned to the OFF position when the transmission is in any position other than PARK and the vehicle may still be moving. The column ignition lock system consists of an ignition lock cylinder control actuator, and a park position switch that is located in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The ignition lock cylinder control actuator contains a pin that is spring loaded to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when the vehicle transmission is not in the PARK position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the PARK position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column.
Linear Shift Assembly: If the vehicle is equipped with a column mounted gear shift, it has a linear shift assembly on the steering column. The linear shift assembly has a cable that runs from the linear shift assembly to the ignition lock cylinder case. The purpose of this cable is to prevent the ignition key from being turned to the OFF position when the transmission is in gear and the vehicle may still be moving. The linear shift assembly cable contains a pin that is spring loaded to mechanically prevent the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the lock position when the vehicle transmission is not in the PARK position. If vehicle power is lost, and/or the transmission is not in the PARK position the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the lock position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column.

Ignition is stuck in run position

does your key stays in the ignition position? or can you turn it back to acc or lock? it might be a stuck ignition switch mechanism inside or a shorted circuit that latches the ignition...have it checked or you can try to open it the switch yourself..but with caution if this is your first time. Pls give me a feedback. thanks!

Key gets stuck in 97 chevy blazer

It sounds like your ignition switch is shot. Not the key and tumbler, but the actual switch which is down on the bottom of your steering column, and connected to your key and tumbler by a rod.

Ignition

i just had that same prob with mine. My Solution: NEW steering collum / key switch
what was happening was the key would get stuck in the igniton and i had to give it a little tap to get it to relese from the igniton. well, by giving it those taps, it popped a little plastic lever in the collum for the igniton switch. then the car would turn on with the key, but not turn off, i had to do the same thing that you had to do to to turn it off/on.

A steering collum later, and it was fixed
