Top oven element on shacklock stove. Does it work on bake. My one only works on grill. What does that mean

Quite normal...top element is for grill/broil only. Bottom element is for bake only. If the grill element were to come on during baking a cake it'd burn the top of your cake to a crisp.
Some grill/broil elements cook at 500-700 degrees.

Oven will not heat up

when you ask a question you should send the brand name and model number off of the machine you need help with.if it's gas check the ignitor,if you can see the orange glow from the ignitor as soon as you see it start to glow if the flame doesn't ignite within 40 seconds the ignitor is bad.if you can't see it remove the racks and the bottom floor of the stove so you can see it,if it doesn't glow check the ignitor for continuity to see if it's bad.if the broil works and the bake doesn't 90 percent of the time it will be the ignitor.if it's electric send more info.

Replacing Igniter on Hotpoint RGB528PEAWW Gas Kitchen Range

you should have a broil glow coil at tol and one on bottom. to access the bottom, open the door and look to the back on the oven floor. ther should be a srew one on each side remove and lift bottom up. you should be looking at the glow coil. i would also remove the pan drawer for access.it would be abnormal for bth the broil and bake to fail at the same time. if this is the case i would confirm power is leaving control to the selected glow bar. they shoul pull about 3.2 amps. then i would focus on the valve. which is opened by the amp draw of the bar. one wire on the valve is common and the other feeds from the control through the valve to the glow bar

Old Eaton Viking Stove - broil won't turn off.

I have the same stove, and just had the same problem. I looked all over the internet to try to find an answer, and then went back to my stove to check the serial number and where the fuses are was the instructions printed on the stove itself.

SO HERE'S THE SOLUTION
1. The timer start knob (the one with little running guy picture) must NOT be pushed in. If it is, turn it slowly until it snaps out.
2. The timer stop knob (the one with the picture of the stop sign) must be completely pushed in.

I hope that helps everyone out!

Bake and Broil not working

After you hit the function you want...bake or broil...click the up arrow.  That should give you the default temp of 350 and the unit should light.  Now adjust to the temp you want.
