I tried to charge my laptop when the battery was low, the charge indicator light didn't come on but the one on the charger did, I turned it on and the screen came on normally but pulsed bright and dark when the charger was plugged in. I left it thinking it was a problem with the charger but later the next day the charge indicator started flashing amber whilst it wasn't plugged in. The power has completely ran out so I can't work out why it would do this, I am in the 3rd year of my degree and have loads of work to do over Easter, this couldn't have happened at a worse time, can anyone help me.
Let's rule out the charger.
Find a multi-meter and check the voltage. It should be listed on the power supply what the output is. For instance, I have Dell that outputs 19.5v.
You can find a multi-meter at Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, etc. Just plug the red lead into the center of the end of the cable and the black one onto the metal 'barrel' surrounding the power supply 'jack'.
Your multi-meter should be set to 200v DC.
If your power supply is outputting near the output it should, your power supply is probably good and it is going to boil down to a bad DC input on the mainboard of the laptop.
