Kenmore elite keeps filling with water when not in use. door does open...yikes but washer will drain when i push drain button.

Top 10 front-load washer problems

1)Water fill problem: water took more than 10 minutes to fill to desired level sometimes indicated as a LF/IE or long fill/inlet error. Water valve screens clogged, hoses kinked, low water pressure, unpaid water bill. Check hose, clean screens.
2)Excessive vibration: noisy,roar, knocking noises. Bad damper,bearing or broken trunnion. no error code
3)Dispenser drawer open/detergent in wrong compartment: washer will not operate with drawer open or cleaning products in wrong compartment.
4)Washer won't drain: clogged pump/filter, slow or clogged drain usually indicated as a LD/DE, if a code is given (long drain/drain error) Clear pump of objects
5)Drum overfilled: usually caused by sediment in the water level pressure sensing tube going up to the main control.Find it and blow out the sediment, re-secure pump out water and retry.
6)Door open, Door not latched, clothes/objects keeping door from completely closing. Tighten door latch, add washers if nesessary to make good contact and close door tighter in case of leaks.Note some models send a signal to the motor and another to the control letting both know the door is secure before proceeding, corrosion gets into the lid lock and the door can be locked and the control is ready but the motor ain't getting the message.
7)Cold water does not enter washer: hoses connected backwards. Oops.
8)Over-sudsing: Wrong Detergent, too much detergent, detergent in wrong dispensing drawer, turbidity monitors pick up particles in the water and judge soil content then the washer allows for extra time to wash the clothes, if the wrong detergent is in there the machine thinks that is too much and declares a suds error. On some models a suds detect is determined by the motor over amping, most machines will try a few mini loads to correct the problem. Remove detergent, retry
9)Locked motor: error LE,loose connection,broken wire/hallsensor, motor overheated/failed.
10)Water heating error, hE, the thermister/heater is out.

sounds like you have a bad fill valve it should only let water into the machine when the fill valve is energized. If water is coming in when unit is not in use change the valve.

normal problem all front loads all brands.. leave door open as much as possible.. to clean fill tub with hot water pour in 2 cups chlorine bleach use rag in solution wipe gasket out as good as possible allow washer to run normal cycle ..do as routine when ever odor is first noticed leaving door open will allow most of water to evaporate

sounds like a bad water inlet valve stuck open and permitting watertto enter even though not on, untill you replace the valve turn off water between uses part number 8181694

sounds as if you have a drain issue, most common cause of fault is theres something stuck in the pump housing. remove the lower acess panel(3 screws along the bottom of the forn of unit) youll gain acess to the pump housing, remove the large cover to the "button trap" by uncscrewimg the cover, it will be righthin front of you in the center of machine when cover removed, im sure youll find your blockage within there

there are 2 possible causes.
either
inlet valve leaking - turn water off and if water fill stops, it indicates valve leaking
valve being powered when machine off. this is very unlikely but to check, disconnect washer and see if problem stops
also, if drain is plumbed into a spigot on the sink trap, every time you empty the sink, some of the water will flow into the machine. to cure this, take the drain hose as high as possible under the sink in a swan neck

Hi When I plug it in is there any light on the panel that will come on without hooking it up the water lines???

The inlet valve will need to be replaced. Its a fairly simple procedure and a pretty inexpensive part.
