First check that you didn't accidentally press the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. Press it once with the camera turned on just to check.
If that didn't help, a stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).
To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

No image is captured by the screen itself (LCD screen works but completely dark).

Did you try pressing the display button several times? in both viewing mode and record mode? Cycle through all display modes, s you get used to the button, so it does not trow you off when it happens again.

When i turn on my camera i get a e24 on the screen

In one of my canon manuals is says about E.. (see the little dots)

Camera malfunctioned. Turn off the power and turn on again, then re-shoot or play back. If the same message recurs frequentely, the camera may be damaged. Note down the error number [xx] and take the camera to a custumer support help desk. If this message happens immeadiately after you have taken a shot, the camera may not have shot the picture. Switch to play back mode and check whether the image was actually recorded.

Sorry if I can't help you more, but Canon does not give more information.

SA1000 IS Display Black. Pictures not taking. Cannon splash screen is visible upon power on. After that, LCD is black and pictures come out the same.

Welcome to FixYa.

The battery might be worn out. Replace it with a new one. If you are using a rechargeable battery, make sure that it is fully charged and the battery can hold that much charge.

How to set the timer for a self portrait on a A1000IS canon power shot

In the camera/shooting mode, press the bottom of the 4-way button and you will see the drive mode options appear on the LCD. The top icon (square) should be highlighted. Scroll with the up/down buttons to the 10 second or 2 second delay icon, and then press the Func/Set button in the middle. To return to normal, do the same thing but select the square icon.

You might have switched off the display by mistake, which is used as a power saving option and can be switched on by pressing the display button.
