Depends on the microscope. Generally, with most simple microscopes that are used often, calibration (aligning of the prisms, objectives and eyepieces) shouldn't be required more than once every 5 years or so.

If youhave it checked each year they can ensure that more costly fault do not develop, as for calibration unless you are CPA inspected then calibration is not relvant, both the scales on the side and the microscope ability to measure is already NOT accurate.
