I am trying to copy a recording to my pc from a Mikomi ET 858, but I can't locate the file when I connect to the pc. It is recorded in VOR LP #006VOC. Why won't the pc see the file? It shows 3 folders A, B, C. B & C are empty, while A contains old files. Can anyone help? Regards, Steve

Hello sounds like your digital portable is using a Specify Codec (file format) that may you are not able to see you can try to record on your digital portable select a different record format like MP3 don’t use the LP that normally is for more time recording but maybe your problem just try MP3 and another folder or just go to www.tvps.com they have a lot option on digital recorders good luck.

Mikomi ET858 digital voice recorder suddenly switched from saving files as .WAV to .ACT, whatever that is. Can play interviews on machine itself, but can't save them to computer. Help! How do I switch it...

Hi all,

I recently bought this little headache of a dictation machine to help me with my Law revision. Had similar problems but have worked out the following:

The machine appears to have 2 modes of recording - LP and SP. When the machine is in LP mode, it appears to be a format for the machine itself to allow for longer record time. Because of this individual format it will not play back on computers. If, however, you change it to SP mode (from what I can ascertain from the VERY unhelpful user manual is 'high quality recording' i.e. standard WAV format) it saves the file in a .wav format which is playable on computers.

To switch it from LP to SP (this is on my dictation machine only - i take absolutely no responsibility for breakages etc):

Turn on
Press 'M' to cycle to 'REC' mode
Use the Volume control to cycle between SP, SP VOR (no idea what VOR is i'm afriad), LP and LP VOR
Record as usual.

I've made test recordings on both SP and SP VOR and both save to WAV format and can be played back through a computer.

If anyone knows what VOR is then please shout back.

Hope this helps.

Need user instructions for Mikomi ET-858 dictaphone. The ones supplied are "Pants"!!!

Unfortunately, units made in foreign countries don't have much of a user manual - ESPECIALLY in english.
There is no support website for Mikomi - and - unfortunately it will be up to you to "translate" the english to english :D.

Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated!!

Mode for playback of older 8mm tapes using Sony DCR-TRV730 ?

In 1990s Sony camcorder records movie in analog format so playing in digital camcorder like DCR-TRV730 doesn't mean it will be converted in digital format and you can not import file in PC for editing purpose. You will get analog signal while playing back old cassettes.

Regarding SP, LP speed, its decided at time of recording. Camera sens SP or LP automatically in playback and set itself accordingly.

If you want to convert old cassettes into digital format, connect our camcorder to DVD recorder and burn DVD which is digital format, copy DVD files in to PC and do desired editing.

The speed of the recorder

Difference between 4cm and 1.2 cm speed is just like SP and LP speed in VCR etc. 1.2 cm speed selection will give you more recording time on same cassette.
VOR stand for Voice Operated Recording, if you enable this vor option, tape starts recording only at that time when sense any voice and will remain Pause if there is silence.
This option will also give you more recording time at same cassette by skipping empty space.
