The screen brightness changes due to plug in or battery power
The screen brightness changes from darker to brighter when the power cord is plugged or unplugged. The kicker is that it changes, sometimes it is darker when plugged in vs. unplugged, and sometimes it is brighter. It usually reverses after a shut down, stand by, and/or a restart, but I can't seem to deduce what makes it change. Preferably I would like it brightest when plugged in and darker when unplugged, but is there a way to choose its brightness? I've gone to Display settings and it doesn't affect the differential from plugin to unplug.
Re: The screen brightness changes due to plug in or...
This is quite common actually I see it a lot. There really isn't any reason, it seems that when on batteries it trys to save power by Dimming Down, but it often just mucks up.. I always now set it via the keyboard keys. whenever I change from power adapter, to battery.
what do you mean you "set it via the keyboard keys" excactly what steps do you do to do this procedure? it would have been helpful for us rookies.what do you mean you "set it via the keyboard keys" excactly what steps do you do to do this procedure? it would have been helpful for us rookies.

Hi,
A Sony VAIO PCWA-A200 is an 802.11b Wireless Access Point Router.
Your post "...AC PLUGGED IN AND RUNNING ON BATTERIES...." indicates a laptop issue.
To be of better assistance, post the brand/model of your laptop.
I'm not sure what a Mytouch is but on laptops if you don't have the power cord plugged in the display is normally dimmer or darker to preserve energy because it is running off the battery. You can make it brighter to some degree by pressing the correct keys on your keyboard. Once you plug the power cord in, laptops automatically display a brighter screen. This is all normal protocol.
Most computers have a key combination to increase brightness. This is usually Fn+UP for brighter on Fn+DOWN for darker. If this is not the correct key combo, look for keys that have symbols looking like the sun or a light, those keys combined with Fn will change the screen brightness. This can also be changed in Windows, if that is the OS you are using. Go to Start->Control Panel->Power Options and an opiton for screen brightness will be there. Also, right clicking the battery/power cord icon in the system tray can get you to the power options.
Typically there are two ways: through the keyboard, usually a function button and brighter or darker button, and 2nd in the power settings. Lower screen brightness gives much longer battery life.
Laptops generally have brightness controls that are capable of being set to different levels depending upon how it is being powered (either the AC adapter or the battery).
Odds are you somehow accidentally changed the brightness down to it's lowest setting when the AC adapter is plugged in. I'm not sure how to adjust the settings on your model, but most newer systems have a way of doing through a key combination on the keyboard. Generally by holding down a key labeled "Fn" or similar, and another set of keys on the keyboard (one for darker and one for brighter).
There USUALLY are labels on the keys to indicate this. If there are no labels on your keyboard, try checking in the manual that came with your laptop.
Check your display settings in the Power save part of Control Panel. You can set a brightness for battery and AC. Normally you set it brighter on AC and dimmer on battery (to save battery life) but if you've adjusted it for some reason that would explain it
Go to Control Panel, Change Battery Settings, then Change Plan Settings of whichever plan is selected. Once there, set your display brightness for when the charger is connected to maximum with the slider. While there, you can also set the display brightness for when the battery is connected.
Its not a problem, its how it was designed. With the power cord in it will be at full power so it will light brighter, When the power cord is out, it will be less bright as its using power from the battery , it will light dimmer to conserve power.
On your laptop there should be key combinations to change the brightness of your screen. Once you do this, it will stay that way for each mode until you change it again. There should be in blue above the arrow keys, the F keys, or the number keys, a symbol that indicates brightness; one key for up and one key for down. You press the FN key and that corresponding key to turn your brightness up or down. Once you got it set, leave it. It will stay that way until you change it again.
