I'm pretty sure my color wheel is broken, and would be fine W/ replacing myself, but can't find where I could buy one. I have learned that the collor wheel is supposed to have4 segments, and have 2x speed, I'm not sure exactly what that means, but can you sue a color wheel for a different projecter w/ the same specifications?...

Simple answer No! Colour wheels do run at high speed (I think around 20,000rpm and you can get 4 and 6 segment colour wheels i.e for each colour.to get better colour definition for the higher end ones.

Remember the colour wheel is a precision device as It has to rotate in sync with the DMD chip as each different frame of colour information is sent to the dmd chip.
some important considersations for choosing another colour wheel- off the top of my head:
motor voltage and current
number of poles on stepper motor
size of motor- will it fit
diameter of colour wheel
purity of the colours etched onto the glass
mounting of the assembly

I'd be looking for an original, see if your authorised repaired would be happy to sell you a genuine one on the basis of no warranty no return.

but do give it a go if the repair cost and a genuine one is out of the ball park or similar cost to new
Good Luck!

Josh, you won't find a Toshiba color wheel anywhere. You WILL find the entire light engine for between $400 and $800 dollars. A new one could last two minutes or two years. I am no TV repair expert, just a pissed off consumer. My brand new $3000 tv is going to the curb broken, and I'm buying a Mitsubishi.

Color Wheel

I'm pretty sure if the color wheel spins with no vibration that it's not the colorwheel. I would have to say that your cable is bad. If it has been bent repeatedly near the connection that the wires could be breaking down. Try a brand new cable.

Buy a cheaper color wheel !

Sorry, the color wheel is only available in the Light Engine Assembly. You can not purchase it as a single part. You will have to purchase the engine and replace it to repair your TV. PN: 23405476 it runs about $450 with a $200 core. You may find it cheaper... I don't think it is readily available... Best of luck to you, I hope this was helpful.

We lost the pcture on our Samsung HL-R4266W and we got a blinking "Lamp" in the center of the screen while there was a deep humming noise. I called Fry's Electronics where I had purchased the TV in Dec....

I learned that the problem was a broken color wheel instead of a bad lamp. It appears that the color wheel gets very hot and brittle because of the proximity to the lamp. Eventually, parts of one or more of the glass wheel-blades break off and make noise if they are still next to the wheel.

Samsung HLN5065W 50 in. Rear Projection HDTV-Ready

With the back off of the set it will shut off. There is a lever it engages to prevent the set being operated with the back off.

The color Wheel will cause a fan like or high pitched grinding noise. I can tell you where to buy it and also there are on the internet places with written and VIDEO instructions for the replacement in most of these sets.

Put the back on and see if the set again works and still has the noise.

Loud whirring noise in my Samsung dlp rear projection tv. HL-M507wx/xxa. Is this the color wheel or cooling fan? can I replace myself? I changed the lamp and that was pretty easy.

fan is easy to replace, color wheel will require a technician.you can remove lower back cover and see the fan but i'm guessing it's the color wheel.

Color wheel failed. Can I fix it myself??

If you contact Optoma and they have the part available then, yes you can fix it yourself. You have to be good at taking things apart and remembering how they go back together. Changing the color wheel assembly is not that hard.

My Samsung DLP TV HL-R4266W is making a noise when I Turn it off. It sounds like the fan is rubbing on something. I took the back off and all 3 fans look fine. Could the noise be the Color Wheel and is...

Yes, the Color Wheel would be the only thing left. I am not sure about this exact model but the Color Wheel in other Samsung models are replaceable.
Hope this helps,
