It sounds like you are trying to click on a hyperlink to email someone, like at a website. These hyperlinks are programmed to open an email client like Outlook, or Outlook Express and open a new mail message with the email address line populated.

If you are using a WEB based email like Yahoo, Hotmail and the like, then the hyperlink will not work, and you get the error you describe. Generally it isn't worth the time and effort to setup an email client if that is the only reason you are doing it.

SO, generally, I just open my email, then type the email address of the hyperlink ([email protected] for example)

Need to install "default mail client" properlly

That all depends on what mail client you wish to install.
If you wish to use Microsoft, to to the microsoft site and download and install Windows Live Mail. Once you download it and let it install, it will work.
You apparently have a corrupt mail client on your system.

When I go to a website and have a Point of contact email there , I try to write them and all I get is this" could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed"

Hi, Sorry for the Late Reply. Mails have gone in to the Spam Folder.
HandyTEchT has already posted the solution. That is the way to do it. Some additions: What happens when you click on the link is the Website will Invoke the Default Mail Client in your Machine. I think you have already installed one. You have to
  • Either do Configure the Software (Mail Client - But I don't think its available free for Yahoo to allow Send via a Mail Client. They have a Paid version for such Access).
  • Or You can Configure the Browser to use the "Default Mail Client". That is the easiest way. If you want to use Yahoo mail, here is how to do that (then it will automatically Redirect to the Default Mail Client - Yahoo Mail this time):
  1. This is for IE7 and Upwards.
  • Click on "Tools" menu and go to "Internet Options"
  • Go to "Programs Tab"
  • Drop Down the box for the Setting "E-mail:"
  • Select "Yahoo Mail"
  • Thats all what you have to do! "Click on "OK" button.
  • Note: If you don't have that in the List, Please download and Install the "Yahoo Toolbar"
  • It will ask you for some settings prior to the Installation (Some check boxes).
  • The last option has to be selected which is "Install the Yahoo! Mail Plug-in and make Yahoo! Mail my default Mail provider".
  • Restart the Browser
  • Thats all!
2. If you use Firefox:
  • Go to "Tools" and then Select "Options"
  • Go to "Applications" Tab.
  • Scroll until you find "mailto"
  • Drop the Box down and Select, "Yahoo Mail".
  • Thats all! Click on "OK".

This will solve your problem. Do not forget to "Rate" the Answer with a Comment (Testimonial)

Every time i access my yahoo mail the firefox.exe will pop up and there are 3 boxes that you need to click.....debug...sending error report....and ..don't send.what can i do.please help me.

In Firefox 3, by default, when user click on an email address or a URL link location that starts with mailto: protocol, the default email client, such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express or Windows Mail will be opened to allow user to compose and send email to the specific recipient?s mail address. If you prefer to use web based Yahoo! Mail as your default email client, and want to let Yahoo! Mail handles all mailto: protocol, so that the automatic e-mail message composing and email sending will be done via Yahoo! webmail interface, Firefox 3 provides a very easy way to associate the mailto: link with Yahoo! mail web-based interface, in fact, it?s a built-in integration. Go to Tools -> Options. Click on Applications tab icon. Locate and click to highlight mailto Content Type, and at the corresponding drop down box of Action, select Use Yahoo! Mail. Click OK. After change, whenever a mailto: link is clicked, the email address will be sent to Yahoo! Mail account Compose web interface, with recipient automatically set at the clicked e-mail address. Of course, user has to enter user name and password credentials first if he or she hasn?t already logged in. Note: It?s also possible to set Gmail as the default mailto: handler at Firefox 3 best of luck Mel

Why yahoo mail on my pc not open

You probably mean why when you want to send an email, your Yahoo email program doesn't automatically load as your default client?
If that is the case, all you have to do is download the Yahoo messenger.
Once its installed on your system, you should go to Internet Options on your Control Panel, and select the Programs tab.
Locate the E-mail option, and click on the dropdown arrow next to it.
Select Yahoo as your default email client, and click OK to accept the changes.
Done.
The next time you want to send an email, Yahoo mail will open by default.

Please don't forget to rate this answer if it helps.

Default Mail Client has been deleted from my computer

In WIndows XP, you can sent your default mail client through the Internet Options settings in Control Panel under the tab 'Programs'.

Typically, this is set to Outlook Express or Outlook, but you may also use a third party software program like Mozilla's Thunderbird.

Hope this helps!

Replying to a link given in Craigslist

The tiny program that allows you to select Yahoo! Mail as the default email application for your PC is included as part of Yahoo! Toolbar version 7.2 and up for Internet Explorer (not Firefox).
If you don't have Yahoo! Toolbar v.7.2 or later for Internet Explorer installed, you’ll need to download it before proceeding with these instructions.
We’re sorry there’s not an official version for the Mac—yet.
Here’s how to set your PC to open Yahoo! Mail when you click an email link on a web page.
  1. From the “Start” pop-up menu in the lower left corner of your desktop, select “Settings” > “Control Panel”.
  2. In the Control Panel, select “Internet Options”. This opens the “Internet Properties” window.
  3. Click the “Programs” tab along the top.
  4. Click the “E-mail” pull-down menu, and select Yahoo! Mail.
  5. Click OK. Done!
Note: Yahoo! Toolbar v.7.2 and above for Internet Explorer (not Firefox) is the download that adds Yahoo! Mail to your PC's list of email programs to choose from. But after you've chosen Yahoo! Mail as your PC's default email application, Yahoo! Mail will open when you click an email link in any browser.

Strange... open your Internet page. Go to Tools, Internet Options, Programs. What shows as your default mail client? Try changing it from that to another and try left clicking a link and let us know what happens.

No synchronization when Outlook express is default mail program

Email synch is based on current MAPI preferences. The problem you have is that the VersaMail conduit assumes your mail client must be the MAPI default email client. You could adopt another profile in Outlook instead of OExpress which picks up the account you use in OE. This is the first instance of this problem I have ever heard of so I doubt if PalmOne would make a software change on this.
