The orange wire is for memory retention for the last channel you were on if the red wire loses power as in switched on and off with the car ignition just hook up the orange to a 12 volt source that is on all the time. By the way those are some neat little radios wish I had one.
You need to adjust air/fuel mixture. At the back of the heater there is a plastic slotted set screw. That is the air mixture adjustment screw. Turn it in clockwise a 1/4 turn at a time until the nose cone gets to be about 90% reddish orange. The heater should also burn cleaner. Hope this helps.
It sounds like you need to increase the air mixture. there is an adjustment screw in the back next to the foam filter (which you can get a new one at Ace Hardware). Dial the screw in 1/4 turn at a time until the nose cone turns about 90% red/orange and you should notice a great reduction in the fumes and a greater heat output.
dialtone should go on the green and red wires of the jack for 1 line service, yellow and black for a second line.
Depending on the type of wiring that your dealing with the color code can change. if your wiring has white wires with little dashes of color on them then the code is:
green = white/blue (mostly white with blue dashes)
red = blue/white (mostly blue with white dashes)
black= white/orange (mostly white with orange dashes)
yellow= orange/white (mostly orange with white dashes)
They loose there prime on the pump when not in use. You can call custmer support on how to do it exactually right but here is how I do it. Take off front nose on the unit. Take off the water tank. Turn on and let it run for 1 minute. Turn off and put water tank (with liquid in it) on the front of the unit, under the nose that you removed. Perfect fit but looks odd. Turn on let it run for 30 seconds and test( push Spray button). When it starts working remove and put back tank and nose cover. It should work as the pump is now primed.
I had the same question 4 months ago and called Bissell.
