If you go to an car audio install shop they have tons of leftover slide removal tools. Just ask them for a pair. The nice shops will just give them to you without charging.

Testimonial: "Good site. I know there are a lot of people out there that purchase used cars with after market stereos that don't include manuals. This really helps."

I purchased a used Suburban in which the previous owner installed an Alpine CDM-7857 receiver. Although I do not have the Alpine owner's manual I figured out most the receiver's operations except how to...

According to the manual follow these steps

While the clock is displayed, hold down the clock button for 3 seconds.
Time indicator will blink.
Press the ct button to set the seconds.
Press the H button for the hour.
and M for minutes.

Time indication will stop blinking 5 seconds after the ajustment.
Then the time will automatically be set.

Just in case I will include the link to the manual for other operations.....

Alpine cdm 7861 stuck in pause mode

Check for a "jammed" button. They use a little rubber membrane behind buttons and over time they do wear out. It is possible to push a button on the corner, make it shift enough to jam behind the faceplate & hard to see. Just push the button and see if it pops back like the rest of the buttons on the unit. If it still has a problem, post a comment and I will help you some more. Hope this helps

I have a alpine cd receiver cdm-7861 and will nonly read and play some cd-r's so my question is what format should the music be converted to before buring it

typically music burned from a computer using the windows media player will play in almost anything. format should be + or - R

WMA format plays in just about anything

No backlight on a cdm-7834

The only possible installation problem could be the illumination wire on the head unit. If this is hooked to a 12 lead it would dim the backlight. Try disconnecting the orange wire if it has one(I'm not sure if the 7834 had a dimmer lead). If that doesn't fix it the head unit will have to be serviced.
