On radio or car manual; there must be attached label which shows radio serial number. You must contact to opel & provide that radio serial number in order to get acivation code for your car radio. As far as i know; there is no way to work original radio without having activation code.

I would suggest that your radio got a voltage surge when your battery was recently removed and re-connected. I would either:

1) Remove radio (if you have the special tool), unplug and re-connect harness, or

2) Pull the fuse in the fuse box for the radio (may be two), or

3) Disconnect the negative post to the battery, wait 30 seconds and re-apply (very quickly).

If the display does not reappear, I'm afraid the radio is damaged. Let me know.

Ask the service centre at your local vauxhall dealer to retrieve your code. You will need your VIN number.

There are 3 ways you can get the radio code:
1. Reference your car manual or the Grundig's manual that came with the unit. Most times, there is a sticker on the manual with the radio code printed;
2. Call/visit the car dealer and explain your issue. You may need to show proof of ownership of the vehicle and/or the radio;
3. Use firms who specializes in this. You can try here, here or here.

If the Grundig is the original radio installed when the Vauxhall Astra was new. there are some unconfirmed reports that the radio code is also stenciled on the metal plate where the Vehicle Identification Number is.
