unfortunately, the password is made for protection from accidental or intentional access. The only way to bypass this would be to perform a hard reset and then hotsync your phone with your computer to put your contacts back on your phone.
For performing the hard reset that reformats your phone to factory condition, please follow the instructions below:
1. Press and hold down the red phone key on the right side of the Treo 650 keyboard until the Palm screen appears. This will begin the hard reset
2. Let go of the red phone button when you see the Palm screen.

A last resort is to hard reset the device, but you will loose your data.

While holding the power button and re-inserting the battery will prompt you to choose whether or not to erase all data. If you choose "yes" the phone will reset to factory defaults. This should be done as a last resort, but at this point the phone is not functioning at all. Once restored, you can sync it with your pc or laptop and it will import all of your contacts, notes, favorites, and calenders just as it did before. In the future you may want to think about using an SD card for documents or other important information that could be lost in the event you have to reset again.

If the phone is new to you, (different story if it was working on cingular before .. let me know if it was)
It sounds like it is sim locked, the phone needs unlocking.
If you can contact the previous owner and ask them what network it was on and borrow a sim card from that network it will verify the phone isn't faulty or blocked
The previous owner may be able to get it unlocked for you via there provider else somewhere like www.650unlock.com will do it for about $15 (I'm not recommending them, just one of the first in a search) Its worth googleing "treo 650 unlock" and shopping around also check 650 forums for recommendations

The 650 seems to have a delicate headphone/mic jack. Dropping the phone, even gently, seems mess up that jack. I returned my first treo 650 as defective, and got a new one. The same thing happened to my new 650 after I simply compressed the phone in my breast coat pocket by holding my mail against my chest.

I can't get a new one because the replacement treo comes with no warranty of any kind. :(

My advice would be to find a PDA/phone repair service to repair the jack or diagnose the problem if it turns out not to be the jack.

Yes you can. I have been doing this with Palm Pilots and Treos since they were originally invented. In particular I run a great application called Mobipassword that synchronises a password file on both computers. However for the first time when I converted to a Treo 650 I am having a subtle problem where any information I add on my home computer will synchronise to my Treo, but won't then appear on my work computer. (The reverse works perfectly.) I have spent literally hours with the PalmOne help desk but they are worse than useless, so I have posted a question on this forum to see if anyone here can help me. I am sure my problem is something specific to me, so you should have no problem. (I never have in the past.) Good luck!
