Try uninstalling all IDE controllers - My presario SR2150NX has problems when Microsoft OS updates and replaces ATA controllers with generic controllers. If you uninstall and restart from device manager you should get the proper ATA controllers back. Two symptoms you may notice if the controllers are bad - loss of read/write ability on CD / DVD disk drives and sluggishness of hard drive.
If this doesn't fix it - open device manager again and in the IDE controller section open dialogue box for each entry - go to advanced settings and uncheck "Enable DMA" and then try to read a disk. I have an old presario running Win98SE and it is fantastic, this new presario must have been glued together in a back room shop in some remote region of the world or Microsoft and Compaq/HP just don't communicate anymore or maybe it's both.
Hmm...Something may be wrong really!
Are u able to copy from any folder within the hard disk?
Some viruses / malwares are preventing the copy function of the windows from working properly!!!
(So, try some good antivirus)
Also...one more info for u
1. u must have sufficient disk space for copying files to hard disk:)
2. if file system is FAT32, u may mot be able to copy files of size more than 4GB
3. Try updating the firmware of the CD/DVD drive
4. Try coming back here with more clues to ur problem :)
have a nice day
