My less than 2 year old sony dsc-w100 keeps powering off and on

I know the power is suppose to swich off after about 5 minutes of no activity, but my camera now switches on by itself, stays on for about 5 min then switches off for a few seconds then back on for 5 min. Also if I turn the power off, it switches right back on after a few seconds. As far as I know it has not been dropped or anything. I have fully charged the battery thinking that it may be a battery issue. Any ideas?

Yes, my camera which is about the same age has developed the same problem in the last two weeks. I have to take the battery out to keep it switched off.

I resolved this in my dsc-w100 with the following procedure:

1. Put the camara in view mode and wait for the lens to retract.
2. Remove the battery
3. hold the power button and remain pressing it.
4. Insert the battery while still pressing the power button
5. Wait some seconds, then release the power button

The camera remains in off mode and no longer keeps turning on by itself

My only idea would be that the power button is glitching out...anything in the manual about this?

On my sony cybershot dsc-w100 the lens is stuck on the out position and it keeps saying turn power off and on again. it moves the lens and acts as if it is trying to retract it but it wont go in. I can...

Most of the lens issues due to mechanical problem. some of the causes are dropping the camera.
Hard shake like keeping the Camera in the hand and jump through steps, Moisture condensation, Insufficient battery.. etc If If you feel that the issue is not with the above reason. Remove the battery, reinsert after 2 minutes to perform a power reset and check the operation.
If the issue persists, service may be required.
Thanks for understanding
