Hi,
This is an ol Acer travelmate 290. It quite suddenly starts skipping back at random while typing text ( like now !) to re position the cursor back a few lines ( so i find myself typing in the middle of stuff i've already typed!).
Its irritating to say the least. A solution will be appreciated.
Thanks.
My specific problem is, or was, that the skipped characters back to former lines of type, inserting characters in other words, started only a few days ago, and mostly in the body of the email text in gmail. It also happened in online forms such as this one and in notepad. but it doesn't seem to be happening now. A Dell Chat agent looked at the settings on the wacom tablet and asked me to disable the scroll and put all other settings on default.I was inclined to think that while typing in gmail text in the body of the email that I was hitting some other key, but I didn't know which one. I don't think the pads of my thumbs are hitting the touchpad. so I'll see if this never happens again I'll consider it fixed by the online helper.
I did a restore point back to Dec 31 and the problem seems to have gone away. Meanwhile I lost IE7 and went back to IE6, so I can download that again. A local computer tech had downloaded some fix-your-problem software, I forget what it was called, and I was told that that could have facilitated the problem with the cursor. It was getting worse, pages were scrolling when I didn't want them to and the email I was writing in was getting saved in draft by itself, and emails were being sent before being finished. My mouse on the drawing tablet, and the pen were seeming to be causing these problems. But now I am told by a local tech to do a system restore that it might have been a software conflict. I'll let you know what happens next, because I might want to change the restore point.I did a restore point back to Dec 31 and the problem seems to have gone away. This seems to have repaired the problem. I have only had two skips in the past three or four days. This seems to have repaired the problem. I have only had two skips in the past three or four days.

I had this problem and solved it in minutes by downloading and installing a neat little freeware program called TouchFreeze. Google it and give it a try. --Erik E./Brooklyn

Well, technically it is not moving it backwards, it is moving the cursor to wherever the 'pointer' is. You need to STOP resting your palm(s) on the Touchpad.
When you touch it, it will move the cursor to wherever the 'pointer' is....which is likely where you started typing.
You can also turn-off the touch-pad if you will be doing lots of typing. This is done by pressing [Fn] and [F3].
Even though you may not actually ever contact the touchpad while typing, many laptops have the flat ribbon cable that connects to the motherboard under at least a portion of the keyboard. This can cause the touchpad to think it's been activated and make the cursor jump when keys are struck.
Here's a really simple little application called "Touchfreeze"you can install that automatically disables the touchpad ONLY when you are typing. If it does not solve your problem, at least it will have no effect on your computer in any negative way.
Before you're hasty to leave a negative rating for this response, keep in mind that this program may help hundreds of others who view this post. I've seen it cure end many people's woes who weren't actually touching the touchpad.
this sometimes happen in a laptop where the touchpad is unawarely hit causing the cursor to transfer location. that is why the typing is pointed to other location in the document. please make sure that your workspace is not having any of this same scenario
i was trying to assit my lacousin with her laptop "issues" and could not figure out how to stop the cursor from skipping around. when you start typing on her laptop the cursor has been known to:
move randomly while you're typing
highlights text and deletes it
jump all over the page
After doing many google searches, I was unsuccessful in finding a solution so I thought I'd post here. I have tried to make her touch pad less sensitive but nothing seems to work.
Thanks for touching basis with me for clarification...hopes this helps!
My experience: cursor suddenly moving backward when i was typing, or moving somewhere else on the page. I would be typing and text suddenly would get highlighted. I followed someone's advice to disable the touch pad. Since I do have a mouse & key pad that was all i had to do.
HOW TO DISABLE THE TOUCHPAD FOR ACER 3680 AND OTHERS??? PRESS Fn +F7
Yep, it was that simple. At first I made sure i typed without my fingers or palms touching or near the touchpad. I noticed it seemed to stop or happen less. Soon as I disabled the touch pad all is back to normal. Yet I spent hrs trying to find out how and there were all these posts by people suggesting downloads and other more complicated things etc..
