Plug it in to the computer for a few hours, then hold the power switch to the on position for up to 15 seconds.
if that fails, disconnect it from the power source, then press and hold
the lower right corner of the screen, while holding the lower right
corner, switch the power to the on position. once you see the message
"do you really want to delete your data" select yes, then follow the on screen instructions

1. How do you connect it to the computer?
2. Tried pressing and holding the lower right corner and turned on to ON position. Did nothing. The screen is dark as ever.
you use the USB Cable that came with your Garmin ..then download the garmin webupdater

run the updater and connect your garmin to the PC
if your PC does not see your Garmin, you have other problems

Had the same problem. Dark screen and wouldn't turn on although charged. Used UBS cable that came with it and plugged it inot my computer. Screen came on and it is updating now./

Sounds like a bad or low battery. Do you have the Garmin
approved charger / car charger?? You may have to send your 265 in for battery
replacement or try this:
There are three ways to charge the internal battery in your automotive GPS
unit.1
1 - Please note
that temperature can play an effect on the charging of a device. If the battery
registers a temperature of 0°C and below or 45°C and above (32°F and 113°F
respectively) then it will not charge. When connected to external power it will
only be operating off of external power.
2 - The Quest® and Quest® 2 will not charge using a
USB cable.

To perform a Master Reset on the nuvi 200, 205, 465, 500, 600,
700, 705, 1200,1300,1400 or 1600 series device:
Note: A master reset
will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default
factory settings. But who cares if you have problems, right?
The device will automatically reset. Follow the on screen prompts then place
your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires
satellites.
