Rinnai 556 I have two rinnai 556 that were installed in two apartments. The apts are approximatly seven hundred square feet each. I went and had them installed by a local dealer. The problem is that the heat does not reach the bedrooms. The dealer said the heat was trapped in the living room. His solution was to put airshare units in each bedroom for a total of seventeen hundred dollars or install baseboard heaters. I don't know what the cost of that would be. I talked to another rinnai dealer and he said with the amout of money spent on the units, I should not have to add any other heaters or air share units. What do you think? Thanks

Tomeboy,

You are asking a lot for a R553 to heat 700 sq ft. with bedrooms that have doors. These heaters are great but they do have some limitations. If you were building new you could put in quiet room to room fans up high on the wall to move the air into other spaces. Since everything is already built you are really stuck. If you had to you could frame in the fans, do all the electrical, sheet rock and paint or just put a smaller Rinnai in the bedroom. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.Sorry

Money seems to be an issue for lots of us. but if you don't mind a coupla extra bucks get a few axial muffin fans and use them to spread out the heat pattern at your bedroom doors

How to install

Unfortunately, the installation of one of these units is not quite as simple as 1, 2, 3.

So, I am providing a couple links on the installation process. You can download and print each one.

The first is the Flue Installation Guide.
http://www.rinnai.com.au/images/stories/operating_instructions/Heating/Energysaver/CI_ES_Flue_Inst_Manual.pdf

The second is the Operation Guide, which also deals with proper installation.
http://www.rinnai.com.au/images/stories/operating_instructions/Heating/Energysaver/CI_ES_Flue_Inst_Manual.pdf

The third is the exploded parts view & parts diagram, Which you may need in the future.

I hope all of this information will help you properly install the unit.

My Rinnai says not to use it without an air filter and to clean the air filter once a week--but I can't see an air filter. Is it possible that it was installed without one?

If you have a RHFE263, 431 or 556, the air filter is located at the top in the seam where the wall trim piece attaches to the heater. It looks like a dryer lint filter.

go to rinnai's website and look up the manual for the diagnostic codes. rinnai.us, look under literature/manuals. type in "556". It will tell you how to retreive the error codes.

Rinnai EnergySaver 556F Heater flashes

I'm picking up a faint propane scent when the heater is completely turned off. When I turn the heater on it lights fine so I don't suspect it's the pilot light. Is this an issue with the installation of the fuel line, or could it still be the pilot? Any ideas on troubleshooting the source?
