Is it worth paying for the tube?

I have a guy trying to sell me a Sony KP57WS500 Rear Projection but the red tube has gone bad. The part # is CRT-RED-873364825 (supposedly). Is it going to cost me a lot to install? Is it some thing I can do for myself?

Certainly you can do it yourself if you are careful and go about discharging the CRT. I would suggest getting the service manual that explains in detail how to change picture tubes and set the new one up. A new tube will cost between 2 and 300 depending on where you buy it. I am enclosing a link on where you can purchase the service manual for your set for 10.99 and you get unlimited support with the manual purchase for free. They will mail it to you, unless you go back to the site after purchase and click on the contact link asking for them to email it to you, And they will also email you instructions on how to obtain your free support via online chat. Here is the link.

MY SONY KP57WS500 TV FLASHES RED AND THEN SHUTS OFF

The standby light should be blinking a repeating pattern. Please count the blinks and update this with that count. That count will indicate the circuit that has a problem which is causing the shutdown. These sets shutdown to prevent further damage. Armed with the count, we should be able to provide you with the problem and likely solutions.

Thanks,
Dan

2002 Sony KP53s75 is it worth repair?

Ok, 5 times is an akb problem, and without red, this tells me one of three things are most likley wrong either the red tube is too weak to produce return current to the akb circuit, or you have a bad driver on the crt board or you have a defective focus block. There are several diagnostics that need to be done to determine which one is the cause, if you are un familure with electronic repair it could be a little hazardus to do, so i don;t recommend it unless you are aware of the issues. If you swap the neck modules with the blue tube, and the set looses blue then it is not the tube. and might be worth repairing. but again if you don't have experience it may not be a good idea for you to try this yourself.

Sony 65 inch screen tv

Yes the red tube is shorted. I will post a link to the site where I work as they have an entire AV48WP30 with a bad tuner they are selling parts off of including the Tubes. they also provide free info on how to switch out the tubes as a unit which is a fairly easy job. Heres the link.
