Go to unused video input to see if other than black and white image, turning screen controls down might fix this issue.

the model listed is a very old set---parts may not be available----language can be selected in the menu but the pink may be a adjustment of the screens (controls) or a circuit problem.

I would suggest if model number is correct that with set unplugged you remove rear cover and look at the three large black lens; if the set has not been serviced they should be cleaned with either a lens cloth or a paper towel with glass cleaner sprayed on it.

With the cover removed also peek at the mirror at the rear of the set (look from back and up to rear) to see if it is grimy or real dirty; The only real way to get at it is remove entire front frame with screens and remove; not a simple task on this model if you have not done it before.

Usually the lens (they are for the red, green, blue picture tubes the set uses) if real dusty will cut down the brightness and make the picture look dull and even dim (they are the light source for your picture).

Before you rate this information let me know what you find or if you have any questions as I am here to help.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Major failure in the electronics of the tv: when you press the power button the source of the tv starts (the first click) then the faulty board starts to receive power - because it has a fried component it will act as a short. This triggers the protection system which in turn forces the source to shut down (the second click).
The only sure way to identify the the faulty part is to test the tv and identify the short - this requires a good experience in electronics. The only thing you can do is to open the back of the tv and look for defective capacitors, but you need at least a basic experience in soldering to replace them.
In the mean time unplug the tv from the mains, every time you try to start it the defect gets bigger.

The three (3) lens covers. I did this the other day and now my picture ROCKS!!! I used a synthetic feather duster for the loose dust, then a clean soft T-shirt for the rest. Make sure to unplug TV first, and let sit for 20 min. before cleaning.

It seems problem with convergence output section in tv, check convergence two output ICs and replace them to fix the picture issue.
If you have electronics knowledge and parts replacement experience in circuit boards then can attempt by yourself or ask local tv repair shop to help you.

Hello,

To enter into the convergence service of your sony, follow the steps below;
  1. Press "Menu" on the remote control. Use the up- or down-arrow button to move the cursor to "Setup" and then press "Return."
  2. Use the up or down arrow to move the cursor to "Convergence" and press "Return." This will bring up the convergence-adjustment screen.
  3. Press the up or down arrow to move the cursor to the line you want to adjust (either vertical or horizontal for red and blue) and press "Return."
  4. Press the up or down arrow again to move that line until it converges with the center green line and press "Return."
  5. Repeat to adjust the other lines until all three lines converge and are seen as a white cross.
  6. Press "Menu" to exit the convergence menu and return to the original screen.
You can as well follow these steps;
  1. Press the "Power" button to turn your TV on.
  2. Wait at least 30 minutes before you adjust the convergence in your television. This allows your TV ample time to warm up before you make the adjustment.
  3. Turn your TV to a cable channel or to an antenna channel with a picture that you can see. A music channel with a static shot of music notes isn't the kind of picture you need. Instead, look for a picture like what you would see on a movie, sitcom or drama.
  4. Press the "Flash Focus" button located in the front panel on your TV. You may need to open a hidden compartment on the front of your TV to access this button. The convergence will repair itself automatically after you hit this button. It may take several minutes.
Any of the two processes are detailed steps on how to enter your convergence service.

Take care

Projection sets have two very common problems outlined below.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. The TV can also shut down when the convergence starts to fail.

Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith, RCA and others.
