Dear experts! i have a G9 powershot camera, and yesterday i have encounterd a problem.....the screen is not showing any image and i have checked and it is not the display button...it's like trying to take a picture of a comletly dark room....what to do?

The only place I know of that does outstanding work on the Powershots and is actually reasonably priced is www.camerasandparts.com They exclusively service the Canon Powershots only and their work is outstanding! If you get their service package for the G9 image problem it fixes the spot in the image problem. They only charge $89 for everything, parts, labor and shipping back included and they clean and service up the camera at the time of the repair. Press the "DISPLAY" button until you get the display you wish. You can choose the information you want overlayed on the image in the custom display settings, see pages 55 onwards in your user manual.

make the "live view"/"viewing screen" first enable by locating it in your menu or your settings. then after that you can go back from taking picture by using the viewing screen

in regards of viewing the pictures taken, press the display button. keep pressing until the viewing screen appears

First of all, yes, you will lose your pics if you format the card now. Get a card reader and download the pics to your computer. If you've used 1.7GB on a 2GB card, it may very well be full since the camera uses part of the card to write the files.

If you go to display and click down to "review" you should be able to set the review time to what you would like. The default may be 102 seonds. This should work and check the manual

It's a common problem with the loose screws on the G7 and the G9 cameras. The camera needs to be serviced since it likely blew a fuse when it shorted. The site that's really good for help with these is: www.camerasandparts.com They just service the powershots and they are less than most places charge. They do wonderful work but the best part is they do the correction for these problem on all G9's they work on so the problem doesn't keep happening. Are you looking at multiple pictures in the play mode? If so select one image and you should go back to the standard method of right and left clicking the dial. The mode your in you can use the scroll wheel to breeze through images.
