sound like problem with regulated parts block.....and can more helpfull if you count the blinking of the LED....sony have selft diagnostic at the LED Blinking.....
Jar-Head, bad news, the picture tube has a mild short in the green cathode, tech can come out and try to restore it but it`s usually a futile attempt on sony tubes, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, BMW Rider
SYMPTOMS Distorted Video, Partial horizontal size collapsed, pop sound, or high pitch squeal.
RESOLUTION In very small amount of cases the capacitors listed below MIGHT BE reversed on the A Boards below. This was found at the factory and corrected but a few boards might have this miss-mount.
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off,hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

the picture tube on your TV set is exausted. Please contact your nearest Authorized Sony Service for further help/advice.
After all, Sony is a good choice. The next TV set you buy could be one of Sony-s Bravia LCD.
